No breed of dog should ever be banned, not even pitbulls (not even really a breed). What should be banned is the owners who get their dogs into trouble causing said bans.
Note: Not all owners are doing it on purpose and should be looked at on a case by case basis.

No they should not. You can't just ban a breed because there may have been a few mishaps I used to own 2 they were the sweetest things ever. Unfortunatly one got hit by a car and so my brother took the other one. The only thing that teaches a dog to be mean is the owner. It is all in the way they are raised or "not raised". Dogs are bred to be companions and protectors. So yeah a dog might growl or bark at a stranger but that doesn't make them mean. I do door to door ministry quite often and I am faced with many different breeds and there isn't one that is better or worse in temperment than the other it is just how they are raised that makes them mean or nice.

No. Rottweilers are great breeds as long as they are brought up right. I've only ever met one which did not have an excellent temperament and that was because it had been kicked in the head when it was a pup before being rescued.
I cannot wait to get a rottie of my own - they are such sweet dogs. Banning a breed is pointless - its the owners who use them for fighting that need to be put down, not the dogs!!!

What a strange question!
Should motorbikes and private cars be banned? Boy, do THOSE vehicles put lots of people in hospital or even in a grave!
But ownership of ANY breed should not be seen as a "right", it should be something available only after the seeker has obtained a licence or permit (based a little bit on knowledge and a LOT on the person's personality & property & lifestyle) to own a specific breed. The more athletic a breed is or the more powerful it is, the more important that only the "right" people be allowed to own it.
But do politicians have the intestinal fortitude to set up a permit scheme, with HEAVY penalties for anyone who supplies a pooch to someone who doesn't have the appropriate permit? Not they! It's MUCH easier to ban a few breeds and require existing members of that breed to be neutered, as Australian states did with Alsatians from 1927 to 1972.
A couple of your respondents are very naive:
Not ALL breeds were created/selected to be companions.
It is NOT "all in the way they are raised". Rearing & training make a big difference, but genetics are highly important.

No but neither should any breed of dog be banned. I do think that people should be made to hold licences for owning dogs. And that's not just big dogs either. Then we wouldn't have so much problem with irresponsible owners and also people who arnt serious about owning a dog. I.E. the people who buy their kids a nice little cute puppy at Christmas then by the end of February every ones got bored with it so it ends up in a kennel.

Should Humans be banned as a breed, after all there is no animal on the planet as viscious or dangerous!
Ban the irresponsible breeding, ban the ownership of any breed you can't prove you can look after and train yes but no breed should be banned! We have four breeds banned in the UK and it's a stupid law! There are still Pit Bulls here but the owners are not the kind of people who should keep ANY dog!

No breed should be banned.
Many Rottweilers have calm, kind temperaments
The DEED not the breed should be punished
I would be interested to know how you ban any breed as a breed of dog????

No. I had a part rottweiler, part doberman dog and he was a sweetie. He was also a good doorbell for everytime someone came here he would bark. He had two kinds of barks one for strangers and one for people he knew like my Grandpa who brought him leftovers.
There was only one time did he ever act protective towards a stranger a young looking salesman came(at least that's what he said he was) and Mom had to hold his coller for he stood up, fur standing up, growling fiercely. I do believe the man was really a criminal and that Rocky felt it somehow.
That was the only time he ever threated a human being. All the other times he'd just bark at them making a nuisance.
The worst part is he had to be put to sleep. The vet checked him over and said his joint was too damaged to fix. His theroy was Rocky got into a hit and run. I loved him he was my only best friend.
Also it's usuraly not the dogs fault it attacks someone it's really the owner's fault for not training the dog right or not training the dog at all.

No. Dogs are not born bad. It is the way that they are raised, some dogs have a greater risk of attacking than others, that does not mean that they should be banned. The ones that have attacked should be put down. The ones that show they have an aggressive streak should not be bred and this would help to alleviate all of this. No dog should be banned because stupid people raise dogs the wrong way.
