We also have 14 month twins and you are incorrect on the feeding thing. We have read articles and their doctor confirmed that it actually is not normal for any child to sleep 8 hours at night. Normal until they are about 4 years old is 3-4 hours before waking and needing food or quick attention before being put back down to sleep. It is human nature to want to sleep near their parent and as you already know we are already tired enough but as long as they go back to sleep who cares where they sleep and with whom. Not every night but maybe three nights out of the week my husband has to sleep with one of the twins to get him to sleep the rest of the night. The other one is better and is normally just hungry. We feed him and put him back in his crib. It does really suck and we too are way tired, but it is a lot better than it was when they used to wake up ever hour and a half when they are babies. This is one of those things that will change when it should, until then feed them if they are hungry and let them sleep with you if that is what it takes to go back to sleep. Other than that we are going to have to ride this one out even if it is killing us. Also, everytime they cry I have found is not a reason to get up and take them out of their crib. There are different kinds of cries and sometimes it is just them sort of crying because they are readjusting themselves. Tonight just listen for a few minutes and then react you may find like we did that they will move around and then go back to sleep on their own. The other times you know the difference and they are hungry.

First of all you cant MAKE them do anything. Lots of babies dont sleep through the night at that age. There are a few things you can try though to help minimize the # of times they wake up.
1- try feeding them a nice big bowl of cereal right before their last bottle or cup of milk. THe brush their teeth and lay them down for bed.
2- When they wake at night- dont give them any milk - just give them a little water instead.
3- Dont rush in to take care of them. Letting them cry a little isnt going to hurt them. Maybe they just need to self sooth a little bit.
4- Do they take a passifier? If so, I had to put 3 or 4 in the bed w/ my son so that when he woke up he could find one easily. That made a huge difference and he is putting himslef back to sleep now.
Just be patient. They will eventually grow out of this. Good luck and GOD BLESS you! I cant imagine doing this with 2 kids!!

One thing that my wife and I did with our son was to keep him up till about 9 pm or 10 pm playing with him so that when he does go down for bed he stays down. Also what time of the afternoon do you let them take a nap. Ex : is to say about 1 or 2 pm put them down for 1 - 2 hour nap. Wake them up and play with them or take them outside and let them burn off their energy. It sounds like they maybe getting to much rest during the daytime and are raring to go during the night. Another thing that you could do is to put a CD player in their room with some soft music playing might help sooth their spirit enough to sleep through the night.
I hope this helps out.

Every child is different, some babies sleep through the whole night when they are 4 months old. My 2 year old son only started sleeping through the full night when he was just over 1 years old. they will sleep through the full night when they are ready, kids are more independent then we think.

Talk to your pediatrician. Perhaps you are allowing them to sleep too much during the day. Perhaps it's the time of night you are putting them to bed. It could be the food they are consuming (candy, soda, snacks). One thing you should do prior to putting them to bed is have a relaxing time prior to bedtime to allow them to wind down. Warm milk also helps. Consider a snack of graham crackers and warm milk before bed. The warm milk produces a chemical (much like turkey) that allows the body to relax. The biggest thing is to provide a relaxing atmosphere prior to bedtime and a routine. Make sure they go to bed each and every night at the same time. If they get out of bed, do not allow them to play, or hang out. Immediately put them back into bed. Perhaps sitting in the room and reading to them or laying with them for 5-10 minutes until they fall asleep will help them to settle in for the evening. If they know you are there, they may take comfort in the safety of your presence.

do they sleep in the same room? if one stirs it could be waking the other. try seperating them.
Just because research says there is no nutritional need the same may not be true for your boys. give it a few more months, most kids will sleep through by 18 mo. good luck

You will find cutting out the day naps one random day will be difficult. It will be difficult for the first few days. You can slowly ease into that by shortening their lengths of naps. Rather than a full hour, only let them nap for 30 minutes. Full bellies and warm baths before bed time help as well.
