The lump is on her chest by her right front leg and is marble sized. A friend said that his dog has a few of them and they are just scar tissue or fat that has built up. I was wondering if anyone else has any other ideas on what it might be minus the worst case I am thinking! She is 8 years old, so I am worried!

Most likely fatty tissue.
Take her to the vet to have them check it.

Many times the vet will wait until it's the size of a grapefruit or so to operate unless the fatty tissue is making Fido uncomfortable...breathing, near rear.....good time to get her teeth cleaned as well!

Best of luck!

When was the last time your dog was at the vet. If you're going in the next couple weeks or so, just mention it there. If you're not scheduled to go for a while call them, explain it to them and they can help you decide what to do.

Also, regardless of when you're going to the vet next keep an eye on it. If the lump changes size, hardness, color, etc make sure you tell the vet. If it stays the same, make sure you tell the vet.

My previous dog was 14 when she passed away and had a lot of lumps on her, know of them were serious. My 6 1 /2 year old dog also has some lumps and not of them are yet to be serious. They are very similar to age marks and lumps that people get from various things.

You have to take your dog to the vet. They can do a biopsy and determine if it's malignant.

It could be an allergic reaction to an insect bite?

Is it painful to the dog when you touch it?

If your dog is feverish, or unusually lazy, it could be an abscess, and your dog is suffering from an infection that is treatable.

If you can move the lump..in otherwords, it doesn't seem to be attached to the skin underneath...that's a good sign, and you can probably get by with home treatment...neo-sporin, unless, as in your case, the dog is female, and any lump near the breast of a female must be seen by a vet.

However, even a lump that appears to be benign, meaning non-cancerous, can become malignant if left untreated.

You have to see a vet.

Best of luck to you and your doggie.

It could be fatty tissue build up but to be sure I would have your vet run a culture sample. It may cost $100 or so for it but the peace of mind is well worth it in the long run. That is what I did when I found a lump on my little lady.

if is is soft, it's probably a fatty cyst / tumor
if it is hard probably something the vet needs to see soon
\my dog is 13 + & has had these for several years
my vet told me tha as long as it is not interfering with eating, breathing, then not to worry, just a dog aging thing
but DO take your dog for a checkup,
8 years & up is considered to be Senior Dogs and have unique ailments diffferent from young dogs

Take her to the vet to have a biopsy done. This will tell you if it is a malignant cyst or not. It is always better to be safe then sorry.

It sounds like it might be a cyst. I suggest you take your dog to the vet asap.

You should def. go get it checked out. I have a pitt and he tends to get lumps but everytime he gets them I have had them taken off and a cancer test was sent off. Luckily they are never cancerous. The vet just tells me his breed tends to get these tumors. He has had one on his ear as well as foot and leg. But you should go get it checked out for the sake of your dog. You wouldn't want him to get sick!
