Once in a while (like usually once a month) if I oversleep or overeat the night before and have sweets on top of it - I wake up with a dull headache behind one eye. I also get really nauseated. I read about migraines being one sided and might be behind the eye but alot of people say theirs is on one side of their head more (usually temples). Does anyone get them behind the eye? I'm trying to figure out if it's a migraine I'm getting or sinus headache possibly? Also, if I take advil it doesn't take it away completely.

Oooo that's the worst. Usually when I do have headaches they go towards both of my eyes. I usually tell my mom "I have a headache over my eyes". And she knows what I mean. And since you get it from oversleeping I can't tell you to go sleep it off. Back when it was during the end of the school year I used to always strain my eyes to read the blackboard because I forgot my glasses and I drove home a lot without wearing sunglasses (sun in my eyes gives me headaches). Those two are the major causes of my headaches.

But what I do when I get headaches is I go to my room and turn the lights off, drink a glass of water and rest my eyes. My cousin puts a cold towel over her face and go to sleep but I don't.

But in your case, try taking a warm bath. Since Advil doesn't work try Tylenol Extra Strength. I don't know if I helped....

But Good Luck!

Your headaches are not typical of migraine, but there is not enough information to state with certainty that they are not. The location suggests a sinus origin, but in the case of sinus headaches 'rubbing' the eyes should not make a difference. As these headaches are worst when faced with 'really bright lights' it may be an ocular (eye) problem. A brief history and simple physician examination should be able to determine which of these is the cause.

You may have migraine which is typically on one side of the head and sometimes behind one eye. Sometimes cluster headaches may also give the same symptoms together with nausea. A history of taking sweets especially chocolates is suggestive of cluster headache. Glaucoma can also cause headache together with eye pain. If there is any doubt, see a neurologist

That is a symptom for both sinus infection and migraine headache. Are you sensitive to light, that tends more towards migraine. Also try pushing down fairly hard above and below the eye, if it is extremely painful it is probably sinus infection.

Migraines can be on one side of the head and they can also be behind one of the eyes.

I list a page below on "headache behind eyes" -- but the only way to know for sure what kind of headache you are suffering is to see your doctor.

Yes. Here is what I have found helps:
hydration. make sure you drink lots of water-this has helped me a lot. make sure you aren't under too many covers - you're right, being hot at night brings it on. Also, investigate hormonal headaches, since mine are coordinated with my menstrual cycle that could give a hint. I have a very similar problem and consder trying other meds like aspirin, acetominifin (sp?) and naproxen to see if they work better. that is my perspective after havint this problem about 6 years. exercise and nutrition doesn't hurt.

I got mine behind the eye. The only thing I could ever do was go to the ER and get morphine. Mine were so bad that I'd be screaming for whoever was there to kill me. I vomited so hard I ruptured blood vessels in my eyes. It hasn't happened since I got out of a really bad marriage years ago.

this could be a sign of an eye problem and instead of a doctor you should probably see an optometrist. Pain dull or sharp, behind the eye can indicate a detacheing ertina which can be fatal in many instances. I would get this looked at bvy a professional, especially if the pain doesnt go away with medication... Goodluck!

It could be sinus related or a cluster headache. You need to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

I get these headaches too and NOTHING works for me but sleep. They are usually stress-induced (for me, anyway)
