Fasting is an amazing practice and I think you will find it to be unbelievably helpful in regard to breaking any strongholds in your life and getting closer to God.

As for 'how' to fast there are so many different fasts that I can't tell you what you should do. I will say that water fasts, where you drink *only* water are extremely challenging. I know some people can do them for long periods of time but many people can't do them for more than a few days. When I fast I do a juice fast, that way my blood sugar doesn't go too low. There are also other fasts like the Daniel fast (sometimes called the 'No pleasant bread fast' where you eat nothing but veggies and drink nothing but water --- this is how Daniel fasted in the Bible) that are scriptural. Fasting doesn't have to be just you and a glass of water.

There are *many* websites out there instructing you how to fast (and if you're doing a long fast, trust me, you will need more information). Any good search will pull up plenty of stuff, some from a health perspective (many people fast for just health benefits, and the health benefits are *numerous*) and some from a Christian perspective.

Here are a couple:

I hope this helps. I have been much rewarded by fasting. Email me if I can be of help. :)

depends on what your religion is of course. Muslims fast different than Christians. But anyways, the answer is that if there is a god (and I highly doubt it), he doesn't need your sympathy or fasting or prayers. Grow in the people around you, your parents, your neighbors, your friends, and yourself. Forget about god. You don't have to worship him even if he exists. I think he'd rather see you help a friend or family in the 5 minutes that you pray.

Ask your prayer leaders for help.
Praying to God and talking to Him helps as well.

And when fasting, think less about how much time is left before you can eat or about the food you could have stuffed down.

Communicate with God throughout the fast.
Only when you are relying on God to endure the strain on your stomach will it be truly fasting. On how you will grow, that only God would know.

God bless ya.

Just don't eat for a day. Meditate and Pray during this time, and don't tell anyone you're fasting for religious purposes. Jesus believed in keeping your religious practices secret so they'd be known by "Your Father in Heaven," and not be done for prideful reasons. Don't fast if you're not physically healthy though.

I do the Daniel Fast it last for 21 days and restricts your diet. I cut out all sugars, preservatives, meats, and caffeine. I also like to cut out all media so not to be influenced or distracted by the world. Here's a link to help

Eat nothing. Drink distilled water. Think about what you believe. Change your belief to make your world what you want it to be.
40 days is a good length of time to fast.. it gives your body time to purge and heal itself.
