Smart is an arbitrary term. However, I deem myself intelligent and am a Christian. I think I am not intelligent enough to truly understand God's plan. You, on the other hand, will never understand where I am coming from. You can keep your opinion, you may be right or you may be wrong. But it saddens me to see a question posed in such a manner. Your question is unanswerable.

I am sorry! I see no logic in atheists arguments. Calling people stupid is never a good beginning. I know a great many intelligent Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans. There is NO proof either way. If you want to claim LOGIC..be an agnostic..they have the logic badge. It seems these days that it is fashionable to bash people of religion (ALL religions) in the name of truth..TRUTH is about tolerance and understanding. Truth has no prejudices.

Meat Bot, Meat Bot, Meat Bot....I can respect and atheist's arguments, because I have been where they are...in a state of having no personal knowledge of God. Where the atheist cannot understand us is in this, you MUST have faith in God before He will reveal Himself to you. I am intelligent (my IQ score calls me as gifted, my husband a genius) and I believe in God because He has made Himself known to me. I was not raised in a Christian home or with Christian beliefs. I have studied the five major world religions and did not become a Christian until I was 19. I cannot accept that God does not exist as truth, because I have evidences that He does exist. Lack of experience in an area, does not remove the area from existence. I have no experience with subatomic particles. I have never seen one, felt one, worked with one, etc. I have only been told by others that they exist, and, if not for being told by others, I would have no knowledge of them at all. That does not mean that my lack of knowledge would cause them to no longer exist. God exists whether you believe in Him or not. One day you WILL believe in Him, as will everyone that has ever walked on the face of this earth. (And, as far as intuition goes...I have always, intuitively, believed in God, I just didn't know who He was until I was 19.)

I believe that God has put enough evidence out there to allow all to choose for themselves what the truth is. I think that you should look at Christian arguments before judging how much Christians overlook atheist arguments. Finally, I hope you are not of the same type of people who raves about the intolerance of Christians because it seems to me you are quite intolerant. P.S. Galileo Galilei (earth around sun), Rene Descartes (cartesian method=scientific theory), Issac Newton (calculus), Albert Einstein (quantum theory) all believed in God. Please don't tell me that they were all stupid.
"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." -John 8:32

Rather, why is it that some cannot see the truth?
This is why:
2 Corinthians 4:1-6:
1 That is why, since we have this ministry according to the mercy that was shown us, we do not give up;
2 but we have renounced the underhanded things of which to be ashamed, not walking with cunning, neither adulterating the word of God, but by making the truth manifest recommending ourselves to every human conscience in the sight of God.
3 If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing,
**4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.**
5 For we are preaching, not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as YOUR slaves for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God is he who said: “Let the light shine out of darkness,” and he has shone on our hearts to illuminate [them] with the glorious knowledge of God by the face of Christ.

Faith is not a factor of IQ
I have several degrees and I still have Faith in God
Also I have met way to many atheists who are just as ignorant and uniformed as the Christians they complain about.
The few Atheists that I have met that are not teeth grinding slobbering idiots and are actually decent intellectuals I enjoy talking to.
You'd be a good example of the people I decide not to listen to very often. Most of your questions are hate filled and ignorant. you don't seem interested in discussion only in laughing and hating. How are we to take you seriously?

Atheist arguments ar based on the wisdom of man which can never fathom or seek to understand the spiritual world of whcih man as a whiole is a part of and that spiritual aspect is our soul.
Sometimes human wisdom blinds and it is is this blindness that limits our understanding of the awesomeness of God and God's creation.
Whatever we have, comes from God. When we die, it will alll be taken from us so there is nothing to boast about. We are given intelect, strength and many quailites to fulfill a purpose in life. sometimes when we take things forgranted , they are taken away from us.
Some of the most inteligent people were the saints like St Francis Xavier, St Jerome, St Augustine, St Thomas Aquinas , King Solomon to name a few over whom God bestowed wisdom to guide the people in knowing the will and existence of God.
So where religion is concerend, we need faith to guide us. That faith comes from divine providence. and if you depnd on your own intellect then you fall into this myopic spiral of things that will only blind you ad limit yourself to tings that are temporal and evanescent.

Atheist arguments are futile when compared to the Word of the Living God. We, as Christians, know that you are following your own will and will eat the fruit of your own mouth....and will also eat the bitter fruit of having their own way. Atheists think they are smarter than God. God sits in the heavens and laughs at you. You will find yourself in the very traps that you set. When you stand before the Almighty at the judgment, you will realize just how ignorant you were.

"No atheist can prove that there is no God. I know that's frustrating for you, but I'm sure you'll get past it eventually"
You also can't prove that my imaginary friend steve doesn't exist. Does that mean he does? You can't prove that our god isn't a blue bear with green eyes. Does that mean that's true? It's not something you can disprove because it's implssible to disprove something that doesn't exist in the first place.
Oh, and to answer your question..our of the comfort they get thinking someone is always watching out for them and will be there when they die along with tons of other reasons.

How can smart people remain Atheist?
I think that they see the logic in religious arguments but are emotionally unprepared to accept what they intuitively suspect is true. So they just willfully disregard religious arguments.
