Seriously if you can not give a true gut feel honest answer then please don’t bother, Hypothetically, if you were in the city and you got turned around and missed your ride, and you had to walk, but you made a wrong turn down a street and found yourself in a long dimly lit alley. Suddenly up ahead of you, you see a group of young men. 8 to 10 of them. You can hear the laughs and bits of the conversations but you can not make out what is being said, by now its too late to turn back, you must go forward. You can see the men are holding something in their hands but you can’t tell just what it is. Now you can see a sign just above the doorway where they are standing. Now since you can not turn back and you must walk right past this group to get where you can find help, Which would you rather read on that sign above the door? 5th Street Bar, with the men holding bottles of beer? or 5th Street Christian Outreach with the men holding bibles?

There are a couple of things about your hypothetical that really make it hard for me to have a true gut feeling or even dignify it with a response.

First, is it day time or night time? That makes a huge difference. Additionally, where am I heading? Out to meet friends for dinner? To a board meeting? Back to my hotel?

Second, where's my cell phone? Did I forget it at the hotel/a friend's house/wherever? Did the battery run down so I can't call a cab to get another ride?

Thrid, do I live in this city? Is it a familiar city to me? If it's not a familiar city, why would I feel I could walk to wherever I needed to go? Because that suggests I possess a certain confidence that would make it unlikely I would turn back from either the bar or the Christian Outreach center.

Fourth, why can't I turn back? Seriously? Because I'm too close to the men to turn around without it being strange or seem rude? That's ridiculous! Did the alley-way suddenly grow closed behind me? Did a wall spring up from the ground behind me so I can only go forward? Is there some reason I can't stop, shout to the men from where I'm standing, "Hey, is that 5th Street or 6th Street?", and then make a determination based on what they say as to whether I move forward or not? Is there any reason why, even if it IS 5th Street and I need to get to 5th Street, I can't say, "Okay, thanks," turn around, walk back down the alley, head to the next well-lit block and then walk to 5th Street from there?

Fifth, what possessed me to turn down a street without checking it out first and choose THAT as my path? Because when I'm lost and I come to a corner, I always look both directions to try to guage where I'm going, and if I was looking down a dimly lit alley that certainly wouldn't be the obvious choice, so what exactly is it about this alley that makes me think, "Hey, this HAS to be the right direction?"

Finally, it's illegal in most places to exit a bar carrying open containers, or to have open containers in public, so that whole part of your hypothetical isn't anything that would actually happen, and how am I supposed to react honestly to a situation that couldn't actually happen? I can give you a true gut feeling for a situation that's at least plausible, but this one has so many problems it's not even plausible.

In answer to your very badly posed and ill-thought-through question, it would honestly make no difference to me whether it was the 5th Street Bar or the 5th Street Christian Outreach, unless it was after dark, in which case I would never, ever, ever, EVER turn or continue down a dimly lit alley by myself. In the daytime it wouldn't matter to me either way. I've been hit on before by guys in bars, and I've have Christians "outreach" to me on the street, and being hit on was decidedly less unpleasant, and it was usually easier to avoid the person.

Naturally, it's obvious you would want the outreach. Reason being, you need not FEEL threatened. However, have you any idea of how many WOLVES in sheep's clothing ,reside at the outreach centers?? You might be surprised! Sometimes ,even the Administrator is the Wolf!! Sometimes appearances are deceiving. Your Hypothetical question, begs different answers. In your premise, its illegal to be drinking outside with bottles of beer,so there wouldn't be anyone outside the bar. However, at the outreach, men could be HANGING outside ,and might be those wolves I was speaking about. In life, situations exist, and people with perverted ideas will always exist, what we must hope for as a society, and righteous people, that we discover them before they can do us harm. Sometimes that doesn't happen, but we as a people keep on trying!! This was a real GUT answer! SOLOMON

I'm not Christian, but I would take the outreach guys. Drunks are unpredictable and I could get beaten and raped. Outreach guys are wimpy and effeminate, and I think I could out run them or hold my own in a fight.

If you are a Christian I think you answer this question by saying the Bar- it is more important to actually be doing outreach than to hang out at the Outreach Club. If you are not a Christian then the answer should be the Outreach, but it is probably more likely to be the Bar.

I would actually rather read 5th st bar and the men outside holding their beer, if they have to be holding something that is. this would give me a chance to wittness to someone who may have never heard God's word. Where the people outside the mission might have heard the word already.

LOL that was very creative!! i like that. Thats a tough one i guess the men holding the bibles cause i can easily escape them if i have to. Well it also depends on how drunk the men with the beer are. If they are not too drunk maybe the men holding the beer, im guessing? They might be fun. Then again the men with the bibles might be ok too unless they start pushing their religion on me. I guess both are the same one drunk of liquor and stubborn the other drunk of religion and stubborn. Good question keep up the good work.

Definately the 5th St. Christian Outreach. I know I can find guidance, help, and fellowship there. The other wouldn't bother me either, as I know GOd is there with me and he will guide and protect me.
