It is always OK to pray for yourself if the prayer is not selfish in nature.
If you pray for wisdom, strength, and financial guidance, it is not a selfish prayer.
If the prayer is Lord give me this guy/gal for a boyfriend/girlfriend or give me a million bucks, or give me power over somebody, then it is a selfish prayer.
You should be able to tell which prayers are honestly seeking guidance or help from the Lord, and which are to enhance who you are.
Remember, the Lord knows what is best for you before you ask, but He wants to hear it from your lips.

It's never a bad thing to ask some one to pray for you. Unless of course you are asking that God will help you rob a bank or something like that. I hope that everyone who has answered this question will say a prayer for you and the difficulties that you are facing now.

No you ought to have other people in mind when you pray... The prophet Hosea has a good example of a prayer that has an immediate answer! Is the "patch" that you are talking about another person?
Hosea 9:14-16 (NIV) (the prophet is improvising a prayer to the LORD!!!...) Give them, O LORD— what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry. (And God rushes to answer him on the spot!!!) "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal, I hated them there. Because of their sinful deeds, I will drive them out of my house. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious. Ephraim is blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit. EVEN IF THEY BEAR CHILDREN, I WILL SLAY THEIR CHERISHED OFFSPRING."
God always answers our prayer even before we open our eyes, if we ask him “according to his will”…!
Jeremiah 16:3-4 (NIV) For this is what the LORD says about the sons and daughters* (*babies) born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers: "They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like refuse lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth."
May God’s LOVING sadistic pleasure endure for ever and ever…! and all of God’s people say, “AMEN!!! and AMEN!!!” Any Christian of a sadistic orientation will find a real Paradise in Heaven. The rest will just rejoice in the LORD… whatever they think that is!

We should always be encouraging and positive to ourselves. That's all prayer really is - focusing positive energy on an issue. I would hope you always pray for yourself, if you are into praying. Just remember to keep things in perspective. There are lots of people out there who are less fortunate. However, when going over things in your personal life, a positive prayer is a good start.

Thoughts like that come straight from the pit.Pray for yourself often. How would you feel if your children never asked you for anything?Lift up your foot and look at the bottom of your shoe, wave at the devil and tell that snake bye.If you have excepted Jesus as your Saviour that make you a child of God the King.

No, it's not selfish. Christ asked us to lay our burdens on him. He asked us to come to him about ALL things in prayer. Look at Matthew 11:28-30 and Phil 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:7. All of them talk about giving our worst fears, our sorrows, our cares to God. That is prayer.
I'm sorry you are going through a hard time. If you need someone to talk to, I can certainly listen and try my best to give godly advice to you. You are welcome to email me through my profile.

Jesus said he could do nothing by himself.
You and I can do nothing by ourselves --- in the area that we really do need.
Jesus always prayed. We need to pray even more.
However, pray "first of all" for the Government. 1 Timothy 2:1-4. “I exhort (urge) therefore, that, FIRST OF ALL (before anything else because everything else depends on it), supplications (request for a specific thing; a definite petition for something that we need to have), prayers (asking for something we desire), intercessions (“to approach a king on behalf of someone else”; seeking the presence of God for the need of others which in turn makes YOUR prayer effective), and giving of thanks (thanksgiving), be made for all men; For kings (The Governor, the Chief Minister, the President, the Prime Minister), and for all that are in authority; that we (for the ones praying) may lead a quiet (lack of disturbance) and peaceable (physical tranquility; being rested; without any problem) life (existence) in all godliness (spiritual context of someone who is constant communion with God; in touch on a regular basis; aware) and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”1Proverbs 21:1 tells us that “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” GOD CANNOT VIOLATE HIS OWN WORD. He will not intervene unless we pray.
We therfore need to praise God, pray for others, confess our sins (refer to the 10 commandments) and what we have erred by not loving others, thank God for all the good things and the bad things that happened to us and then finally ask what we need.
Ask and you shall receive. God promises. We have to believe that we shall receive if it is good for you and good for others and if God will find greater esteem if you receive it.

Whenever you pray you praise the lord first. Then you ask for forgiveness. After you pray for every else you know and has a need. Finally you pray for yourself and your needs. First pray for family, friends, and companions.

It isn't selfish. It is what God wants you to do. He is the leader of your footsteps. In order to lead you need to ask Him how. You will be closer to God if you pray dailly through His son Jesus on anything you need, hope, fear, dislike, ...I even ask God to help me to forgive others. I can't do that on my own. God Bless!
