Racism, genocide, slavery, and religious intolerance are considered to be evil according to modern morality. However, at different places in the bible, Jehovah advocates or commands that these things be done.

How could a "perfect and sinless" god, (such as Jehovah is supposed to be), actually have a lower level of morality than "sinful" humanity?

How could a "corrupt" and "fallen" race recognize that these things are evil when a "perfect" god does not seem to realize that are evil?

What do you think this indicates?

mzJakes - So, you would not consider destroying a city because of its religious beliefs to be religious intolerance? I'm guessing you also don't see the idea of a "chosen people", who are considered more holy than others, to be a form of racism? I think you need to figure out where the "on" switch is for your brain.

It means that the Bible is not the only source for people to turn to for spiritual guidance.
I agree the differences between teh God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament really read like two very very different gods. One is always wiping out the world and tearing cities down, then suddenly he's all love, peace and joy full of forgiveness.
So either God got some good anti-depressants of the Bible is wrong.
For all those evangelicals out there I know this is a gross oversimplification of the argument. But I'm not going to write a 10 page explanation here that won't change your mind anyways.

It proves man-made morality is different from the objective morality of God.

Racism: There is no racism in the bible as there is only one human race.

Genocide: God punishes measure for measure. A nation only deserves to be wiped out based on its prior actions, which is rare. And when man fails to carry out God's punishment in these cases, the result is always disastrous.

Slavery: Yes the bible permits slavery. But when one learns all the laws of keeping slaves, one realizes that biblical slavery is far superior than the slavery most envision....also it is so restrictive on the slave-owner as to make owning slaves a losing proposition....thereby minimizing the number of slaves.

Religious intolerance: When has the bible ever preached religious tolerance? Any religious practice not in keeping with following God is condemned at some level. The level of condemnation depends on the ability of adherents to do something about it. Therefore the remedy could be nothing at all to the destruction of a city....depending on the circumstance.

Next time, before you go off half-****** condemning what you obviously do not understand....learn a little. Perhaps you will find your apparent difficulties not to be problematic at all.

That different men wrote the different books in the bible and they weren't all written at the same time, and there was no collaboration because hundreds of years passed between some books, and therefore the stories do not follow one another exactly.

i think of no longer innate yet socialized. all of us carry mutually something growing to be up non secular or no longer approximately the thank you to slot in to our society and the thank you to no longer. i in my opinion think of that our indignant obsession with the perpetrators is extremely weird and wonderful provided that we've constrained challenge for survivors of abuse so quite often our capability is going into outrage on the perp. This makes me think of that the phenomenon is greater on the subject of the psychological self, than society. The movie 'M' has the paedophile pleading his case which i think of is probably greater humane than what we do now. we do not have any therapy for paedophilia or for any charm to any morally forbidden objective. How can or no longer this is ethical to be so condemning? Thank my fortunate stars or in spite of; that i replace right into a survivor and not a criminal. So we concern abuse and attack outwardly yet then this is an end to it. a great invisible military of survivors attempt to place their minds back including little or no help from society at great or any acknowledgement of subject concerns like our love for the guy while they weren't abusing. the thank you to submit to the disgrace and so on. No i think of its self-centred preserving our very own relatives secure. as much as the final 8 years society has became a very blind eye ans remains enormously uninformed on the subject of the quantity of abuse occurring - society on the entire would not opt to correctly known. i replace into abused by using mum and dad and a policeman in the 50's I informed Samaritans and instructors no person listened to me iced up me out. particular it wasn't in the ten commandments replace into it? Thou shalt no longer devote adultery could purely hide it - whether it isnt up there with the biggies.

"Gods" as dogmatic religions know them are constructs of the society to which they belong. Where people practice genocide, slavery, intolerance, etc, they justify it through their "divine revelations", so as to avoid putting the responsibility- and blame- on their own souls.

Convenient, hm?

It indicates that a lot of people are willing to believe something that makes very little sense. But we all knew that already, didn't we?

It indicates that you don't understand. It was groups like the Quakers that ended slavery in the USA. They were the first to say it was wrong..(besides the slaves that didn't have much voice in the matter).
