Most administrators are against it, but rank and file officers, particularly in rural jurisdictions are much more pro gun. I have had armed citizens come to my aid before.

As the old saying goes ...."I would rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6".
If you have a carry permit and take action during that type of incident you may be just fine as far as criminal charges. The bigger concern/problem my be the civil liability in this litigious society. 30 years ago a person who acted heroically would never have had to worry about being sued. Today, people will sue a good Samaritan for breaking a rib during CPR.
In the mall scenario, I would be more concerned about bystander injuries from your fire. If your actions are reasonable in a manner to stop the threat of bodily harm to yourself or others, you would most likely fall on the good side when all is concluded.
Just to be safe though, make sure you have an umbrella liability insurance policy that will protect you and your family from financial ruin from a civil lawsuit.

What if you missed and killed an innocent by-standard? Should you be charged with murder?
What if the first officer on scene saw you with a gun pointing it at someone - that officer wouldn't know who you were or what your intentions are since with any situation like that we would received numerous calls with different inaccurate information. You would most likely get yourself shot and possibly killed. Leave your gun at home.
Now imagine if ten people did the same thing - could be a big shootout in the mall.

Depending on state laws you would most likely be in trouble for carrying a weapon inside a mall unless you are a police officer. All malls I have seen in Texas prohibit chl holders from carrying. However, let's say a chl holder shot and killed a crazed gunman. According to the law he would have to be charged, but I think that he or she would get a light sentence.

most places like a mall have signs that state you can not bring a weapon into the mall.i was never against it but the training and ccw course are a joke.8 hours of gtraining doess not prepare you for anything.ccw has its place and has save many lives.i think it is great to have ccw. i just think i should be stopped until there is a longer course and more required training.

The malls in our area have signs that prohibit firearms (even with carry permits). However, I would hope that if you had a gun you would have been able to assist without putting yourself or others in danger.

You must be careful, because many private businesses do not allow weapons on their property. Never go into a government building or a school with a weapon!

Like any situation involving a citizen, or Police Officer, if your actions are correct, and within the law, you're a hero. If not, well, you know the answer.
