Since we aren't all Christians, people should say socially tolerant things like "Happy Solstice", or "Hope you're having a nice day." When people say "Merry Christmas" they're being an intolerant bigot. Do you agree?

I don't think they're necessarily being intolerant. They've just said and heard it their entire life that way. What I think is intolerant is people that are protesting people switching to "Seasons Greetings" and saying b.s. like Christianity is under attack. I understand what you're saying though because I don't believe in God but my family is always sending my x-mas cards that have Bible verses and symbols typical of Christianity... now that's rude!

No. Are you serious? lol. I don't feel that people are being intolerant bigots when they tell me "Merry Christmas." I find it pretty ironic, though, when they claim that department stores, etc who use "Happy Holidays" are conducting some kind of "war on Christmas" - or even that they're being "intolerant" of Christianity, you know, by using the more inclusive greeting. Because "Christians" feel "persecuted" whenever it's even suggested that some people might think differently than they do.

Anyway, everybody knows that it's only a pagan holiday the early Christians hijacked in order to win converts. So when they tell you "Merry Christmas," just reply "Merry Yule! And sacrifice a boar to Freyr for me, will ya?"

First off, your generalization is wrong. Most people do NOT resent hearing "Merry Christmas".

Most resent the stupidity of generic phrases like, Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings.....and as for Happy solstice....why the hell should anyone be especially happy about a solstice? What does it mean? NOTHING!!!!!!!

If you are so small a person not to be able to accept that another wants to share a little bit of their joy with you, then perhaps you should do the world a favor and remove yourself from the gene pool.

No , I sure don't . I'm one hundred percent Atheist , but I greet people with Merry Christmas . When anyone greets me with Merry Christmas , I thank them and wish them a Merry Christmas .
The twenty-fifth of December is Christmas day whether you're Christian or not . Why not be courteous ?
Also , I wish my Jewish friends a Happy Hanukkah .
You don't have to be Christian , Jewish , Muslim , or anything else in order to be courteous and human .

No I do not agree. Why should people change there beliefs because of you? When someone Say's Merry Christmas to you just reply with Happy Holiday's to you also. There for you wont be offending any ones beliefs. But about Christmas we (ME) celebrate Christmas for the Birth of Jesus Christ. God is everything in once you have faith in him and believe you will understand him.

Merry Christmas to you and your family

OH Sorry Happy Holidays LOL

God Bless you

I'm an atheist. I say "Merry Christmas" to my Gentile friends and I have been saying "Happy Hanukkah" to my Jewish friends for the last few days. No big deal.
I don't care what people say to me, because they're just greetings, though I admit "Happy Holidays" is just too impersonal to suit me. So, Merry Christmas. And lighten up.

Oh yeah, that's us Christians -- intolerant bigots for wishing you a Merry Christmas, the lot of us. We also sacrifice babies, sell our grandmothers into servitude, fart in elevators, and take more than one free sample at the grocery store, too. And those are our nicer qualities.

Happy now?

(Note for the humorously-impaired: the above was sarcasm.)

P.S. Merry Christmas

I will not say Season Greetings to people. It is Merry Christmas. I will not take Christ out of Christmas just to make an Atheist happy.

No. I think that if you can't handle someone telling you Merry Christmas without your panties in a wad, you need to get a grip. Seriously, man. If someone came up to me and told me "Happy Kwanzaa!" I wouldn't resent them - obviously they are happy about their holiday and are in fact wishing me a good day too. Take it as a compliment.

If you are serious and this isn't a "gotcha" question, that is! lol

No, at least not in America. Christmas is a national holiday and is celebrated by the secular community just as much as it is celebrated by the Christian community. It is about as intolerant as saying "Happy Fourth of July" or "Happy Thanksgiving".
