I am 45 and grew up in New York. Being that said, back then, no I was not. i haev actually not been taught that any sect or religion was inertly "bad". I have learned that a select few are always the cause. Muslims and followers of Islam, if they stay true to the Quran and its teachings and not those of the misleading Imans, they are wonderful and loyal folk. it is just like any other religion or denomination that wants to go according to the tenants of man rather than the teachings of The Word Of God. True Islamic Followers also study the Torah/or Old Testament and adhere to the precepts and guidelines there. I had the experience that a child came home stateing that a teacher made a few comments like that and I think it is atrocious. Whether it be about any group it usually turns out to be a personal thing from the teachers point of view and that is wrong
God Bless

I have never been taught to hate anyone, not by a school or a church (synagogue). I do hate because I'm fallible and human. I know it's not right for me to hate but some actions are truly detestable. Muslims are responsible for many recent atrocities. I know all Muslims are not murderous zealots but the extremist Muslims are. There seems to be a large number of people who believe in extremist Islam. That there is some kind of war going on between Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Christians and Jews need to die. If a group of Jews were advocating the mass killing of anyone who was Islamic , I wouldn't associate with those Jews, and I'd speak out against them. But Muslims kill on a massive scale anyone who doesn't follow their religion, and other Muslims who aren't extremists either nod their head in agreement with the extremists or don't say anything at all.

No, we were taught objectively about Islam, without the teachers passing any judgement on Muslims. But then again I went to school before the media got obsessed with Muslims. When I was in school the news were full of Christian terrorists, not Muslim ones like today. How things have changed in just a few years, and how people forget fast.

I will quote a pastor "some Muslims are very righteous and live good Godly lives but it is still a religion from the devil and they are deceived." He gave me a very long list of deceived religions. I like this pastor but I have to say it was the first time I heard all these religions and people were deceived. I was raised Catholic and though I have been told we have the fullness of the church other people who are living Godly lives can be saved too. Since God has written His laws on our hearts. That is why alot of times I am open to learning about other religions. As a matter of fact I did not learn other people and religions were bad until I stopped going to Catholic church. I am sorry to any Christians who doesn't like to hear this. I am not accusing you - I am just speaking from my own experience.

No, we are not taught that Muslims are "no good". People can always be redeemed. There is a difference between what a person is and what a person does. Even bin Laden is redeemable even thought he has done some terrible things, and taught others to do terrible things.
Christians and atheists have also done this. The church teaches that we are valuable as persons because people are created in the image of God. People sometimes do bad things. It is the action that is "no good" - not the person.

Nope. I have been sitting in a church service where a missionary tried to convince us that the Muslim's Allah was just another name for Jehovah, and that they believe nearly the same thing that we do. It was insane, DH and I came *this close* to standing up and walking out - I think it is close to blasphemy to say that Jehovah, the real God, is Allah, a false god. Anyways...
No, nobody has tried to tell me that Muslims are no good, with the exception of lots of Americans I have talked to online who say horrible things like "One American life is worth 10 Iraqi lives." It is sad how racist some people are. Oh yeah, and I've noticed that in Hollywood the terrorists are pretty much always middle eastern, and that pretty much every middle eastern person is a terrorist. I think it is pathetic. Muslims are often good people (well, with the exception of the evil men who beat their wives and kill their daughters for daring to get raped); it is their religion that I don't like. I don't think the people themselves are horrible though, by and large.

I was taught never taught that in either place. My opinions about Islam and Muslims have been formed by the research I have done into the religion and the actions that I see taken by those that profess to be believers and the nations that are ruled by it.

Non-Christian replying here.
Neither in school or in Feast (which is the Baha'i worship), we were never taught to hate anyone. The Baha'i Faith upholds Islam, and we accept the Qur'an as word of God, in addition to the Baha'i Holy Writings and the Bible.
I'm glad to see that almost everyone's answer was "no."
Btw, 911 was not a representation of Islam, it was a terrorist attack. Terrorism goes completely against all the teachings of Islam.

No never!
I grew up in England and the school i attended had a muslim family attending in my class also.
We became wonderful friends.
Their parent's invited me to their house and embrassed me with open arms. They never ever questioned religion or my views on Muslim faith. They would just ask me how i'm doing, and then offer a plate of lasagne.
My church discussed the war and how there are radicals in the world who give other bad names. But have never put down a muslim or said they are bad and if they did, i'm sure there would be a riot! We have Mexicans, blacks, whites, asians attending our church and it's a cowboy church so they are down home typically good people (you still have your snobs) but still.
I have never been tought Muslims or in actual fact - any religion is bad!
I was raised to base my soul opinion on the individual at hand, not to take it out on other's who don't deserve it or don't fit into the category!

I did not know much about Muslims before 9/11. Never mentioned them in public school or church..(although I only went to a Presbyterian church for a few months and didn't really pay attention)
