At my dysfunctional employer, they have put in a position of corporate policeman. I have to see that people are following the rules and report them if they are not. Needless to say I have got alot of enemies but unfortunately I do not know who they are.

My boss pulls me in the office about once a month and tells me he is got all kinds of people complaining about me. I ask him who they are and he will not tell me. He says he is sworn to privacy, so he can continue to get feedback from staff. I then asked him for more details, so I could do better next time. He would not give details because then I could find out who is complaining about me. He just told me to clean up my act.

I can't quit, jobs are hard to find. What should I do?

I would sit down and have a talk with your boss about your job expectations. It is ridiculous to expect them to like the person they know if the internal affairs. My dad worked security for years and was hated. I know what you mean.

Ask your boss how he feels about your reports. Does he feel you are too strict on employees? It is impossible to do this job without being being angry at you for doing it but you really want to make sure you clearly understand what your boss wants done and that he is happy with your performance.

Also make sure you are reporting them for real things. Someone is 5 minutes late, let it go. Someone comes in 4 days in a row 30 minutes late, yes report that.

But explain how you would hate to fail at doing your job of corporate policeman, no matter how happy it would make other employees. But of course, the biggest complainers are sure to be the ones that show up in your report the most. If your boss thinks your reports are too strict, you would be willing to back off a bit.

Find out from him exactly what he expects from your reports so that you can better fit the needs of the company.

Your boss wants the rules followed, but he doesn't want to take responsibility for enforcing them--that's why you're there, to be the bad cop so that boss can be the good cop. See how people run to him with complaints about you?

If you weren't there, HE would have to be the one making sure people follow the rules, and HE would have to be the bad cop, and all the negative energy would go to HIM instead of you.

It's called triangulation and negative bonding, and it's a common feature of corporate politics.

You can either accept that you're the boss's punching bag--although trying to get your boss to agree that you're taking heat because he hasn't got the courage to be the bad cop isn't an option--or you can try to bond with your co-workers against the boss who's making you police your "friends," also known as the people complaining about you.

You can subtly diss the boss when you're with the coworkers, and then when the boss complains you can undermine him by hinting that it's not really YOU they're complaining about, or that complaints about you are really a symptom of some other malaise in the workplace, thereby unsettling him by making him think you know things.

Go to Washington, D.C.--they're experts at this sort of thing there. Learn Triangulation 101 and Negative Bonding I and use them to your advantage.

You just have to destroy whatever sense of integrity and loyalty you think applies in your job, and then you'll succeed!

Excelsior!

Do these complaints seem justified? Do they follow a trend that you might be able to correct? It's sounds like you are probably on your way out the door anyway, so if you can't make your co-workers happy, perhaps you'd better discreetly start job hunting.
You might, if you can afford it, talk with an attorney as well, if you feel you are being illegally harassed.

The righties think of human beings desire to stay domicile and survive $a hundred/mo nicely worth of nutrition stamps. How stupid is that? i've got tried to tell them a million cases that Clinton ended welfare as we knew it yet they're too busy thinking of the subsequent snotty element of say approximately Obama. they actually could lay off the espresso and booze, their understand-how of the international is already completely screwed up. Why is it $a hundred/mo in nutrition stamps welfare and $sixty 5 Billion a 12 months to the oil agencies not? And specific, MSNBC counters the lies and harsh rhetoric approximately Obama yet they continually verify their thoughts on a similar time as FOX will televise something no be counted how ridiculous with reference to the Democrats without verifying it. The unwell fulks that desire to maintain drilling are beyong stupid, they're risky. Obama needs to envision 33 wells that they are at the instant drilling and the splendid thinks he needs to close down all 3,six hundred of them completely. They useful are short sighted creatures. It never was once counted to me if somebody replaced right into a Democrat or a Republican in the previous. regardless of is inherently incorrect the Cons push for, i don't even desire to understand those human beings anymore.

It sounds like a horrible place to work....

Look at what the specific complaints are.... are there any legitimate reasons, for your co workers to complain about your work. If the issues, are things you can correct, take action, and correct these issues.

I am sure you are not alone, others are receiving the same treatments... I'd hate it there.

Look for another job... when you secure the new job... quit your present job.. not beforehand...

good luck to you :)

So he wants you to rat on other people and then says other people are complaining about you??? That is very strange. Stop running to the boss with your reports and just say people are towing the line. You should not be put in the position of watching other employees....it is his job to monitor them.

I would explain to him that he has put you in a difficult position. Either he has to be upfront with you about what it is that you're doing wrong while you do what he asked of you, or he should stop the practice. Tell him you need better guidelines.

Did you explain to your boss that of course people are going to complain about you, because you report them for their misbehavior? I would think he would understand that.

Ask him to 'define' clean up my act. That covers a lot of territory and certainly not helpful at all.
