For 8 months now my throat has felt like it's not draining properly. I was living in the Middle East and picked up a virus which led to sinusutus, this mixed with the dust and pollution there made me quite ill but I shook the sinusitus and thought I would get better.
Since moving back to the UK I have had this feeling of post nasal drip, where it feels like my throat is filling up with fluid. I have the constant need to clear my throat and cough, then it fills back up. I have been to see an ENT specialist who ran all the allergy tests which came up negative, also a barium swallow through which showed nothing untoward. He has had me on acid reflux tablets now for a month but they aren't doing anything. He's run out of ideas (?!). I am NOT a smoker.
Please someone help me, I'm going out of my mind. It feels like there is a pool of water CONSTANTLY in my throat.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Go and see a different doctor, sometimes docs get an idea fixed in their mind and have a hard time seeing something else. It could be you need a different reflux med, it could be a side effect from the med you are on. A second opinion is always a good idea. Oh, and see a doc at a different clinic not one of your doctors comrads. It may even be helpful to try and find a doc familiar with what you were exposed to when in the middle east. Perhaps a doc from the middle east that is familiar with the exposures of that country if there is one around your area. My best to you!!

You've probably thought of this but it's time for a different healthcare provider's opinion. I'd suggest NOT going to someone who focuses just on the ENT area but a general or "all-purpose" physician who will consider all areas of you and include looking for problems that also cause throat discomfort. Sometimes specialists don't think "outside the box" and focus too much on their area of expertise w/o thinking about what happens all over the rest of your body. I wish you luck and hope you feel better soon!

Try a decongestant, it should dry you up. It may take a few days but if it doesn't work for you see a different doctor. Decongestants are pretty drying so make sure you don't take so many that you don't drain at all and end up with a sinus infection.

Did he do a CT Scan of your paranasal sinuses ? From what i understand of your problems, you have typical symptoms of chronic sinusitis which makes a CTscan mandatory and if there is evidence of the disease you should undergo Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). I am a practicing ENT surgeon myself.

hmmmm. i am stumped. i was gonna say quit smoking, but u aren't one, so I am thinkin... hmmmm, did u go to webmd, and do the symptom checker?? i would try that. it could be nasal polyps, or rhinitis, or whooping cough. as for the throat... or epiglotitis....an inflamation of the flap of skin tht keeps food from going into the windpipe. If it gets inflamed it could result in death. i would say for u to go to webmd and go thru the symptom checher, or it could be COPD, emphysema, or obstruction into the back of the throat..

Have you tried steaming? What about a Neti Pot? Maybe these can help. For steaming use the shower or maybe an electric tea pot or they do have specific machines for steaming. The neti pot is used for cleansing the sinus area.
Also, I use acupuncture, it really does help me.
