I see both sides of this.
Sometimes money changes people because it gives them a one-up over their friends, especially if they won it (i.e. lottery). Because they didn't work for it, there's a lack of appreciation for it and then it becomes a point of conversation every... single... time. It's annoying and I think it's because of this that comes the saying "money is the root of all evil." You may have more money, but that doesn't make you a better person!
The other side, however, is that your family change when you get rich. For example, NFL player Warrick Dunn gets paid millions for puts his blood on the field, but the very own siblings he took care of even through college (both their parents were absent - their mother was murdered) decided not to work for their money and relied on Dunn to support them through their adult years. Thank goodness a therapist taught him that it's okay to say "no." Wealth does a funny things to grown-children too; often (but not all the time) children of wealthy parents don't have drive because they've been spoiled all their lives. How do you develop ambition when you've never been hungry? It's situations like these that cause a chasm amongst families.
Friendships are made over common interests and when one becomes suddenly wealthy, the rich guy changes but so do the *friends*. They "dump" their old friends for "new" friends who understand the implications of the new-found wealth and can help advise where they should put their money. The other thing too is they can talk about things like boats and cars without it seeming like bragging. Talking saving money to your old friends get you this expression: "Why in the world do you need to save money when you're so rich?" The friend gets jealous and the wealthy person feels stifled and inadvertently "dumps" their old friends because they can no longer share what's going on in their lives...
The other thing too is that *everyone* comes out of the woodwork to "borrow" money from you. I say "borrow" because for some reason they don't pay you back, citing your wealth as a reason ("You don't really need it back!"). Either that or try get you to invest in some scatter-brained idea. It gets tiring.
If there's someone you know suddenly changes from new found wealth, just let them be for awhile. Eventually when the newness of money will settle in - or run out, lessons will be learned and you just may get your friend back.

It really depends on the person. Some change for the better because now they can. Some seem to change for the worse because they don't hang out with their friends anymore. Some people just plain ol' get ignorant and that because money is the root of all evil. And people don't know how to act.

Its because they werent happy in the first place.
You notice how many of the lotto winners ending up having a life much worse than they had. They changed too much in which your not supposed to change at all.
If you were happy with no money, getting money that quick will not change you. If you werent happy when you didnt have money, getting a lot of them doesnt change the fact that you were unhappy.

I work in a supermarket in a wealthy area and I've noticed that those women who marry money are stuck up little b*tches that like to look down their nose at me despite the fact that they don't actually have anything that they can call their own cos they don't work for money they are basically just prostitutes whereas I come come from a rich hard working family which is where I get my work ethics from cos I find the idea of living off other people like a parasite disgusting and I like to have my own money. And after meeting their husbands as well I have come to the conclusion that these men would never get laid if they didn't have money cos they are ugly nobheads.

People think the money gives them the right to do anything they want, its not a good thing, but its a reaction to not having enough money in the past.
so if your a bum, you win the lottery, or get a good investment opertunity, and get rich, then you will get nice clothes, an expensive car, and you buy everything in site.
its the reaction to having money when your lacking it.
(like when your in a candy store and found $2 in your pocket, whachya going to do?, buy candy of course!)

Not all people change when the money comes in, but unfortunately there are some that get a big fat head and think they are now above you.

It's out of greed. They can throw their old friends out and get new ones. They can act like a kid in a candy store over materialistic things. If I were rich, I don't think that I would change a whole lot except then my debts would all be paid:)

Because they already become rich. So, the would do what they want to do. Nowadays it's hard to find anyone who will stay the same when they're somehow better from everybody they knows.
