Send them to Darfur to volunteer in a shelter for women who have been beaten, disfigured, and gang raped by enemy soldiers. If they don't realize how cushy their pathetic life is after that then there is no hope for them.

No sure what you are asking. But treat them with kindness and understanding. I have known people like that. I know some people who love to be beat up by counselors who are stupid and controlling. But I can't control anyone. So if this person is an adult they will have to find there own way.

lol...sorry, this reminds me of this movie "Stewart Saves his Family" and his Dad tells him "Your addicted to 12 step meetings!"
But seriously, if the therapist sees that there is a problem, they will say something and start having them do something like come every 2 weeks instead of every week, and then maybe once a month, until the person realizes they don't need it anymore, or at least as much as they thought they did.

Refer him to the Occupational therapy(OT) in order for him to become more productive in life. The OT has a structured plan on how to become productive and by becoming a productive person thus he can feel that self actualization and the self esteem also will improve and this is the time that he can stand alone and make his own decision.

I don't see that it matters' It has to be better than the reason the person starts counselling e.g. Drugs or alcohol. If I hadn't started counselling I would be dead by now.

it would become a very tricky situation.I would introduce some one else into the sessions & take it from there.
