Our peace is in heaven, we can be sure of that, but not peace on earth. Christ came to give us peace with God, peace in our consciences, peace with our brethren, but in the world ye shall have tribulation. Note: Some mistake the design of the gospel, those who think their profession of it will secure them from the ungodly are mistaken. Those who will be true to God will certainly expose themselves to trouble in this world. If all the world would receive Christ, there would then follow a universal peace, but while there are and will be so many that reject him (and those not only the children of this world, but the seed of the serpent), the children of God, that are called out of the world, must expect to feel the fruits of their enmity.

It is a spiritual sword. If you befriend the world and hope to live by the world's standards, you will be separated from Christ and God. If you obey Christ and so follow God, the world will hate you because Christ and his kingdom are not of this world. It is a difficult teaching. For you must observe the first commandment, that is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body, and soul; to place Him first in your life above others. Yet certain people in our lives expect that they should come first. This can cause a conflict of interests, especially among family members who cannot see eye to eye on the faith or Jesus' message.

From what I gathered,He(Jesus)came to allow us to see our true natures. It's the heart that counts, and when I say heart,I mean not the literal heart, but the mind. Our nature is sinful, and we are inclined to do wrong quicker than doing what's right.Look at:Prov.23:7;Mark 8:38;Luke 24:7and Rom.8:3.That sword,is the Word of God(Eph.6:17)and the Word of God brings truth, and true eyesight, therefore those things once darkened by the sinfulness of this world is now seen in the truth of the Lord, made pure, and clear. There will be division among the people he came to save. All may not be his,but none-the less,he came that we all might have life, and have it more abundantly. The world ,when you're in it,is your life. But it's sinful. It's backwards, and those who have taken the yoke of Christ are those who will stand for him,no matter what.So he came that truth be known, and the wheat be separated from the tare.Read also Heb.4:12

Jesus came to bring the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God:
"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:" - Ephesians 6:17.
Jesus said His words are Spirit and life:
"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." - John 6:63.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17) those who reject the words of Christ or those who continue to ridicule and treat Christ's Words with mocking will one day realize that although He looks like a lamb, He will judge with a sword:
Revelation 1:16 - And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Revelation 2:12 - And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

1st off He came into the world the 1st time to be the sacrificial Lamb. For it is by His shed Blood that we are saved thru faith & that not of ourselves it is the gift of God. For the wages of SIN is death but the gift of God is eternal life thru Jesus Christ our Lord. Rose again the 3rd day & is seated @ the right hand of God the Father & is coming again this time to bring all those who love Him up to be w/Him in the air, then will be great tribulation such as the world has not seen since the beginning of time nor ever will be. Then He comes to bring vengeance(vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord, I(Jesus will repay)) to rule & reign for a thousand years & so will we ever be w/the Lord what a wonderful God we have! Bless God the Father, bless God the Son, bless God the Holy Spirit & bless you.

Hello there sister:)
This verse is quite a verse huh!
Each of the 4 Gospels portray the Lord in different ways.
Matthew- As King
Mark- As a Slave Savior
Luke-As a Genuine Man Savior
John-As God. The Word from the beginning.
So we see in Matthew 10:34 this very interesting verse
" Do not think that I have come to bring peace on the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
Sister... The Whole earth today is under Satan's usurpation.
We see this in 1 John 5:19
"We know that we are of God and the whole world lies in the evil one"
The Lord as our Heavenly King came to call some out from that usurpation. So many responded, including you and I. THIS certainly aroused Satan's opposition. He instigated the people under his usurpation to even fight against the Heavenly King.. our Lord Jesus and even His called ones. Thus sister.. His coming did not bring peace, but a sword.
Luke 12:51-53 is also a striking couple of verses
" Do you think that I have come to give peace on the earth? No..I tell you, but rather, division.
Sister.. there is the satanic Kingdom and the Kingdom of God that both operate on this earth today. There is a struggle even on this forum between unbelieving ones under satan's usurpation and believers in Christ. The Lines of division have been drawn. We are those standing with our Lord to TAKE BACK THE EARTH under satan's usurpation.
Look at vss 52 and 53
" For from now on there will be five in one house divided and three against two and two against three
They will be divided: father against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law and daughter in law against her mother in law."
People and even us in our own natural human concept might look at this and think .. WHAT IS THE LORD SAYING HERE??!!!!
But the Lord is not speaking about only the persons in the natural sense... but of which kingdom these persons stand for. The Lines are draw sister.. the swords are drawn as well. We fight an enemy who will steal kill and destroy every one of those that we love. He will keep men and women blinded and in darkness in his evil kingdom.
There are some who had to pay this kind of price. Loosing family for the sake of the Lord's name. In the days coming.. some of us will be left to endure the tribulation.. would our families stand by us? Would they be for the Lord in us? I think not sister. Its going to be each man for his own.. the love of many will wax cold.
May the Lord have mercy on our families. That there will be household salvation. That many many will be rescued out of the Kingdom of darkness..into the Kingdom of the Son of God's love.
May the Word.. the Double edged sword pierce all the ties the bind... and free those that we love. We need to labour so much in prayer and have the word readily spoken from our lips.
Excellent Question
Your sister

I think the pride in human heart makes them feel they know everything. But in reality they know just little compare to what God knows. I think it's a shame that people claim to have the word of God & they twist it to fit their own taste & standers. Then they go & bash other people for having different values/ standers.
I'm not going to be a know it all person. I wish to hear what you have to say about that verse from the bible.

It means that whenever one gets saved, they have to realize their guilt before God, and a need for a saviour, Jesus never said just ask me into your heart, as most Christians do. Whenever one is tried by the commandments of God they're found wanting, and it pierces their heart.
