I got in my car this morning and didn't give it much time to warm up before I left. The temp outside was 18. By the time I got on the highway the light was blinking so I went home and turned my car off and then turned it on again and there was no light. Could it just be being weird or is something wrong? The temperature gauge took a long time to start moving to the middle too.

a lot of things starting with low coolant to the car didnt warm up as quick as the computer thought it should

check freeze protection and level if that is ok change the thurmostat

just for info if your gauge ever shows hot and you decide to just drive it home you will blow the engine and will be walking home and paying $600 to $2500 to fix the car

David S. is correct, VW's have a coolant level sensor, and if the coolant is low, the light will flash. My guess is upon cold start, your coolant was a bit low....

I'm pretty sure the coolant tank has a blue cap. To open and fill the tank, run the car for a bit to warm it up. Trying to turn the blue cap while cold is VERY hard.

If you find you were low on coolant, and fill up, and same issue returns (low coolant), you have a larger issue to deal with. You'll need to hunt down the source of the leak. Which could be a simple as a worn hose or as bad as an internal problem like a head gasket...or maybe a water pump.

also, if your light is flashing, but the temp gauge stays in a normal position (i.e., not overheating), your coolant is low. If it's overheating, stop and call a tow truck.

Good luck...

Blinking light on temp gauge is suppose to be low coolant. Could be a fluke, check the coolant level when cold and top up if necessary.
