Be particularly cautious with photographs. A short quote from a book or article is 'fair use' and is not a problem if you cite the source; however, when you reproduce a photo, you are reproducing the whole work and must be concerned about a copyright violation as well as plagiarism. You won't be at risk in a school essay, but you couldn't publish your paper without a release from the copyright owner.

Although, mentioning the source in the caption is sometimes the required way.

no you dont have to do that but remember to notify the teacher in the paper where you got the picture from....maybe below or above the picture

Yes. If it is not an original photo by you, then it requires attribution.
