With age I have learnt to do what I can and therefore hope doesn`t enter the equation..!!

Both. But probably more often hope and then do. If I do not have some kind of a hope or vision or plan to motivate me, you usually don't do anything.

Hope, then do. Because I never do, until I figure out what to do, and by then I'm already hoping.
