A questions a lot of Christians wonder about! It seems that whenever ministers have come under scrutiny lately, the root of that scrutiny has been money. I guess that's why the Bible states in I Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
But it seems that the greed and corruption that permeates secular businesses has somehow seeped into the church, or should I say some churches.

One wonders what Jesus would do in this situation. See, if he drove a particular car, that would mean he was showing favoritism because, of course, everyone would want to drive the car that Jesus drove. Hence, the particular maker of the "Jesus mobile" would make tons of money, which would drive the other dealerships out of business.

And if Jesus drove a very expensive car that only a few were able to afford, or if he wore suits that only he could buy, that wouldn't make him accessible to all people because there would be those who would feel inadequate or unworthy to get near him because they didn't have what he had.

And there are some who might get offended (whether justly or unjustly) by what they would perceive as Jesus's gluttonous display of wealth. Therefore, Jesus would have to discontinue flaunting his wealth and spending excessively because if he didn't, he would be in sin.

How so you might ask?

Well, because according to the dictionary, gluttony (which is a sin) is defined as greedy or excessive indulgence, and if purchasing a $23,000 toilet isn't excessive, if living in a 20,000 square foot home isn't excessive, if having five, six, or even seven cars and jets isn't excessive, then I don't know what is.

same reason any Capitalist corporation proprietor/operator attire nicely...this is stable for corporation!!! faith is a corporation. Salvation is on the marketplace. Worshipers are the clientele. merely like all corporation if the owner/supervisor is donning thrift keep clothing and using a modest used automobile the available clientele ought to interpret that as an illustration of failure and not even concern going into the corporation. same with the God Freaks...you could no longer attraction to many purchasers in the experience that your existence seems as though God has no longer exceeded out any rewards. Christians are greed pushed human beings, you place a pastor/preacher in 1000 dollar tournament and at the back of the wheel of a Caddy and it says "favored by way of GOD"!!!

Mike,
I am a bi-vocational minister, I work a more than full time job and I also Pastor; my wife works as well. I drive a 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 90, 000 miles on it. I get my suits from JC Penney's, on sale. I get my shirts, ties, and belts from Wal-Mart. I give of my own income to help those in the Church, I am also the one responsible for the benevolent fund; which is low at this point due to the rising cost of food, medicine, and heating fuel. Many Pastors in my area, of all denominations, are basically like me...we don't preach for the money, we preach for the honor and glory of God; to bring a lost person into a life changing, soul winning relationship with Jesus Christ. I am assuming you are referring to preachers like TD Jakes, Paula White, Joyce Myer, Eddie Long...they must answer for themselves...many of these ministers do a good work for the Lord. Many have made their money, not from the Church, but on the sale of books, CD's, etc. I agree with many of the people that answered your questions...but God says in His Word, through Paul, that if a Man of God Preaches, he should be paid. Now, the amount is between the Minister and his Church. Many Churches cannot afford to give their Preacher $100,000. a year...some can; but I am with you. As long as the Preacher has food, shelter, transportation, and a little money in the bank...that should be sufficient; the real pay and benefits come from serving God, and God will provide, God will see to it that His people are taken care of. The mission of the Church is to reach the lost...to love the loveless, to provide for those whom have fallen on hard times. I believe we should concentrate on feeding hungry and helping people in need. I also believe that Christians should not build million dollar Churches in areas where people are living in shacks and living on wellfare...I think that $$$ should be used to improve the community.
Thanks for the question...I hope my opinion helped.

That's just another stereotype. The preacher at my church (where 10,000 people attend each weekend) drives a regular car, lives in a modest house and wears decent, casual clothes to each service.
My church has many programs where old and sick members can receive assistance for free.
Most churches are corrupt, thank God mine isn't.

My preacher lives a comfortable life. He has a nice car, a three bedroom house, modest clothes, and I don't rise to arms over it. He has done much good with his life, served God obediently, saved many lives, and Preached the word for almost thirteen years now. I feel he deserves what he gets, and despite the obvious signs of a happy life, that doesn't mean he ignores the poor in the church, or lets the hungry stay hungry.

They do because they have worked hard for them, just like business owners work hard and enjoy lavish lifestyles while their poor employees barely get by. Example: the Walmart family. Give the preachers a break. Many were the days when i've been inspired and uplifted by a preacher's word. Also they serve a God that provides for them based on his promises. God is in control If they don't deserve it he will deal with them either now or in the future.

This is one thing that bothers me too. I do not believe that they should live in poverty but should live modestly.

Too many pastors today go for power, prestige and the praise of men, instead of God

They do not seem to have read this verse...

1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

It's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven. Isn't that in the bible?
