English in England is slightly different.

Why is my use of English spelling so offensive?

It's not offensive, but here in America we have a huge military, so we get to enforce our spelling rules. That's only right - we spent all of this money on cruise missiles and aircraft carriers and the like, and so we've earned the right to spell it "color" rather than "colour". Right?

Wouldn't you love to see how Bush spells things?

American imperialism is unfortunately, taking over the world. We'll all be completely dumbed down soon, and believing that possessions are the important thing in life. When kindness has gone will we be able to get it back? I wonder.
PS you don't have to hit "check spelling" it does it automatically.
There are some words that the American site won't even let you use because they have been altered in meaning to mean something crude. It offends me when I'm told a word I used is crude, when it was not used in that way by me. &ss for instance I can't write the word properly because American wowsers don't approve of donkeys unless they are called donkeys! (I see that wowsers is not an American word either)

Did you mean this to be a religious issue?
I know some people can go on a crusade for decent English, but even so...

Yes, it's cultural imperialism, or just the sheer weight of numbers.
I have a word processor that does at least offer choices of spell-checker, but they are not called "English" and "American English".but "English" and "British"!

If you want to fight a last ditch defence, stand alongside those who merely but correctly use American spellings, against the ignorant or lazy hordes who loose any connexion with History, and offer in they're postings the unedifying site of Capitals wildly included or neglected, with apostrophe's scattered at random. (sic)

It's a reasonable bet that txt isn't worth reading.

Actually I like the way ya'll spell. I don't know WHY, it's just different and cool lol. Anyway...I don't think it should be called "wrong" it's only "wrong" to those who don't know there's another way to spell how. However, if you were on here and trying to write a question in French or something, I could see people getting upset.

Most programs allow you to change the spelling default to proper English (UK).
I wouldn't worry about being offensive with your correct spelling. It's another of those great things we gave the world and they have changed/adapted to suit their own needs.
just be content in your mind that you are spelling it as it was invented many years ago here on this once great isle...
Does this mean I'm going to get sh*tloads of abuse from non UK people now?

Because we Americans are ALWAYS correct!

Seriously though, I couldn't care less if I tried. I read enough English (America) and English (Brittan) literature to not even notice anymore.

Question to you tho: Is it just me or do the differences in spelling most always involve a "u"?? o_0

Are you sure you're not spelling it wrong in both dialectics? I mean, we have have slightly different words and meanings, but for the most part the spelling is the same.

Kinda mixed. i replace into born in the united kingdom, and moved to the U. S. while i replace into 3. So i learnt some words from my mom (like shade and a few greater) so as that they caught with me the british way. words i learnt in college from a instructor, i spell the yank way. I purely moved back to the united kingdom some weeks in the past, so its no longer basic for me now, spelling some words the yank way.

Hell if I know. I don't find it offensive at all, though.

Maybe it's because Yahoo! is based in America, that's probably why they would use an American English format.
