Because it taste better with some kind of sweetener. If they thought it was great and perfect without the sugar; they wouldn't put it in it. Some people do like unsweetened tea.

Not everyone can make the perfect cup of tea. If the tea is steeped too long it becomes bitter. Sugar makes that bitterness easier to drink.

Where are you from? Here in the United States we put sugar in tea to sweeten it just a bit. .Now I have guests to come in my restrauant everyday that are from China and Japan and they drink unsweet tea with nothing in it. I think it is all in the way we are raised. . .But unsweet tea here just don't happen. . .unless someone is a diabetic and they put artificial sweeter in it. . . .

I also put tons of lemon in it!1taste wonderful to me i dont care for tea without sugar taste quite BITTER!
It also could be everyones taste buds vary..some people adore spinach others UGH!!
