it is a direct contradiction of their faith.

I don't disbelieve science but one must remember that all theories are provisional and subject to change as knowledge develops. There is never a way of proving a theory as there is with a mathematical theorem.
There has been a reluctance in some religious circles to accept ideas which are contrary to previous readings of their scriptures. But in the end it happens - I don't know of any religious people who now accept the three level model of the world - hell below, earth and the heaven above but that is definitely what was believed at one time.
One of the problems of contributing to forums like this is that everything becomes polarised. It seems impossible to put forward a reasoned view because people like to shout at each other and not listen and especially to label and classify others.

Religion has for centuries had a problem with science. Throughout the Dark Ages its answer was to violently repress any parts of it that it did not agree with -including the house arrest of Galileo Galilei.
Many doctrines central to Christianity and supposedly based on scripture have been effectively entirely overturned by Christianity. These include the centralness of humankind to the Universe (which led to a Papal Bull that the Earth was not just at the centre of the Solar System, but at the centre of the Univers - both proved false), through the age of the Earth (Biblically around 6,000 years, but even with the most modest dating techniques provably far beyond that). My goodness, the list is endless.
Evolution is but the latest conflict. Despite overwhelming proof, some Christians insist their faith "trumps" science.
Science is, in effect, an inconvenient truth for those who wish to run the world on ignorant Biblical dogma.

Some theories contradict what religios people believe to be true. This shouldnt come as any surprise though as scientist continually try to prove and disprove each others work and in the process revealling a healthy level of disbelief among other scientists. From my perspective, given the choice of faith in the Bible, (a book inspired by God and written by those who walked with Jesus) and faith in the teachings of some 19th century naturalist, choosing God is easy.

They would swear they were not drowning even if they were a 100 miles out to sea dressed in chainmail, they are blinkered and gullible, unable to think for themselves as the church does not like facts and proof to hinder their absurdities and belief.

Because those particular religious people are blind to anything that does not fit within the narrow confines of their faith. There's nothing hidden about it.

Maybe that science is false prophecies made up by false prophets. Albeit I will stick with the agnostic variety.

Because a great deal of scientific knowledge directly refutes and outright disproves almost everything they believe.

We don't disbelieve all science, but unlike scientists we know that all science comes from God.
