these answers expose the hypocracy of humanists. they want religion out of schools because they dont want christians imposing our beliefs on the children. but thats exactly what they want to do. they want to shove their humanist philosophy down our throats.

It has to be both. As a teacher, helping children respect each other so they can get along is very important. Although, fighting is still a problem we work with daily. In order for children to grow up and get along in the "real" world and keep jobs is just as important as academic skills. This is only my view. :)

since the essence of humanism is an internationalist approach to life (modern languages, world history) and a respect for such truth as can be discovered by investigation (all the sciences) i think it would be difficult to run a non-humanist school.
unless you want the public school system replaced with madrassas.
but if that is what you want, shouldn't you just move to an islamic society?

Science should be taught in science classes, not ideologies. Religion should be taught in classes that are about religion, but without any favoritism shown toward any one of them. If an atheist taught that class and said, "These are all stupid and wrong" then he is in the wrong. I think atheist scientists should be being hired, though, but only if they don't say stuff like "See how this makes God superfluous?" We just need to teach kids how to do science, and what science says about stuff and leave the rest to their churches to deal with when they learn the earth isn't 6000 years old.

I agree with Michelle. Children need to be taught respect. Some parents don't teach basic values such as honesty, responsibility, etc.
More and more, teachers are espected to do it all because some parents won't do anything.
