Tried it once and never again ... got scratched badly. If neccessary, take cat to a professional groomer. If not, just leave him alone.

Just like people, some cats are slobs and need some help keeping themselves clean. This can be particularly true of overweight cats. They just can't reach everywhere.

I have a show cat and he is bathed only when going to a show. Some of my other cats that don't go to shows have never been bathed and take very good care of themselves.

My cats are indoor only, so they don't get into some of the stuff outdoor cats do. If your cat gets into oils or grease outside you can use "goop" (a cream used by mechanics to clean their hands) and that will get the cat clean. Otherwise you will need to use a shampoo designed for cats and dilute it by half with water to make sure you can rinse it out easily. Human shampoos are too harsh on the cat's skin.

Bathing a cat can be a terrible experience for everyone, particularly if the cat hasn't been bathed regularly since it was a kitten. Clip the claws first or prepare to be shredded.

So if the cat obviously doesn't need any help, I'd avoid the trauma for both the cat and you and skip the bath.

It is not necessary to bath your cat unless it becomes very dirty. Most people who have prize-winning cats bath their cat on a regular basis. Many cats do not like water and find a bath a frightening and traumatic experience. If you ever need to bath your cat, the below information will tell you how. The first thing you need to do is to brush your cat to remove excess hair and dirt. Talk to your cat with relaxed voice to keep it as calm as possible and do no make quick movements. Have everything ready before you start which should consist of 4-6 towels, shampoo, a hair dryer and cotton balls. You can use special cat shampoo or you can use regular shampoo but it really doesn't make a difference.

Actually a vet has told me on a visit that bathing the cat is ok - siamese for instance are a breed that love water but that aside bating the cat is ok as long as if you are shampooing kitty you get all the soap of properly so kitty doesn't ingest it when grooming itself

Yes, I do. Only once or twice a month though. My 4 month old kitten explores around very dusty and dirty spaces in my house so I bathe her since I cuddle with her a lot and also let her sleep with me on my bed. It's okay to bathe them; i've been bathing her since she was 3 weeks old. She doesn't get that mad over it though, she just looks very frightened and cries the whole time I'm washing her. Her coat has been very shiny and silky soft ever since...

I have 4 cats. I have to bathe one because of an ongoing skin issue, I don't bathe the others.

yes you can bath the kitten/ cat..... if kitten leave till its at least 12 weeks old..... some ppl i know bath their cats once a month, although i agree they do clean them selves, but i think personally its stil visable to wash the cat yourself, thats why there are wash products in pet stores for when you wanna do this, it helps keep their fur soft and glossy, also help clean them up when they are malting fur, which in turn prevents them having too many fur balls to cough up. just make sure the water is luke warm like you would for a baby.

ps. my kitten doesnt mid a bath as i started doing it when she was 12 weeks old, once they get used to it they let you do it, just keep fussing them and talkin to them.

Teach it not to be afraid of water at a young age and bathing will be no problem. I have one, that when she hears the water running whether it be for your bath or hers, she will always be the first in the tub and you do not have to put her in, she will get in on her own.

I do! My cats are older, BIG AND FAT. I have a hard time giving 1 of them a bath, but it is a must! Don't worry, they won't die or melt.
