Not all wars are for people to commit acts of Violence but to defend freedom, ones home, or personal beliefs. just in a grander scale. It is true that in history you have wars fought over beliefs, greed, dominence and control, or just some dirty underhanded people.

War is not just about differing beliefs. We have a lot of injustice and unfairness in this world. We also don't try to learn enough about those who are different from ourselves. We don't work enough at trying to be a positive example, and then using persuasion to influence others, along with world wide public opinion, and meaningful sanctions. We tend not to be good at controlling our desires, and into overindulging. Violence is another desire out of control. Violence is the desire to impose our will on others through physical means. Religions should be teaching people to be more in control of themselves in regard to their emotions and desires. Beliefs should have a positive, not a negative affect on morality.

Wars are fought because of greed, power, and control. Dominance over other humans is a common human flaw that most people have.
Religion is an excuse not a reason for war. Religious beliefs are usually warped to suit the purpose.

Because of people's desire to belong to a group, and easily believe in propaganda. People can be quite easily convinced that a whole 'group' of people (Jews, Muslims, Communists, Westerners, Homosexuals, 'Blacks', 'whites' etc) are 'evil', or bad for them, or out to get them. Once this is nicely simmered, violence is easy.
Some people start violence just for power and control over others, or over resources etc.
Some use religion and propaganda. Some politics.

The factors leading to war are often complicated and due to a range of issues. Where disputes arise over issues such as territory, sovereignty, resource, or ideology, and if a peaceable resolution fails, is not sought, or is thwarted, war often results.
The word 'war' is most often used to describe human conflict, but can be applied to certain kinds of animal conflict (such as ant and chimpanzee wars)

Because at some point one party is going to refuse to act like or do what the other party is forcing them to do. Therefor they will defend the right of their own free will.

It's all summed up in that line from Renee Zellwegger in the movie Cold Mountain:
They say this war is like a dark cloud
that came over this nation.
But they're the ones that make the weather.
Now they're standing outside
And sayin' sh!t, it's raining!!!
Well, I won't cry one tear for 'em...
less I stole it from a crocodile.
