Be a good muslim and pray for him
the prayers of his kids will help him in the day of judgment,
Ask Allah to forgive his sins

I think following the Muslim custom of helping those less fortunate with food in your fathers memory is a good solution. If you are in a large city with a Salvation Army post or Soup Kitchen offer some help to the needy can also use donations on the behalf of your fathers memory.
It doesn't matter what religion they are, it matters that you did something for humanity in his name.

I'm not Muslim, but my ex-husband is. We gave away dates on the anniversary of his father's death. And God bless you, honey. I'm so sorry you lost your daddy. I know the anniversaries are always hard.

Dear Sister Emmal, Assalamu Alaikum

Many members have given you good advices like reading Quran and making dua, planting a tree and giving charity to needy on behalf of your father are the best things you should continue doing every time you feel like. Doing good deeds for your father are not restricted to only on his anniversaries.

There is one thing more we Muslim do. That is to sacrifice an animal [goat or sheep] and give 2/3rd of its meat to needy Muslims and even Christian neighbors. Just make sure that they want to have it and shall eat it. Some people may take it being polite and then throw it away being prejudice or doubtful whether they should eat it or not.

You or your family member should sacrify the animal on behalf of your father on the day of Eidul Azha which is soon to come. So you get the reward from Allah. If this is hard or not possible for you, then you can send around $100.00 being the cost of animal to an Islamic organization and ask them to have the sacrifice done on behalf of your father (give them name) in a poor country where often people do not get to eat meat for months being too expensive. Some one in your local Masjid may help you in doing the Qurbani.

We send money for charity and for sacrifice of an animal on the day of Eidul Azha evey year to be done on our behalf in Pakistan through Islamic Relief Worldwide. This relief organization is opeated by very dedicated Muslims and most of the money is well spent for the benefit of poor people . You mention to them name of country where you want your money spent for charity or for sacrifice of animal and they will do for you as you instruct them. Dont forget to give your father's name for whom you will send the money. Here is their website.

May Allah keep guiding us to the path of Islam and save us from Satans.

Pray for Him.
Finish any unfinished commitment from him to any other.
If you can afford, do Haj for Him if he was unable to do in his life.
Keep doing good deeds. will reflect his training to you.
Again keep praying to God Almighty.
May Allah bless his soul and raise his position in Paradise.
Forgive his mistakes and sins, Amen.
