Abraham is the father of Ishmael (father to the Arabs) and Jacob (father to the Jews), he was a Prophet of God and a monotheist, as stated in the old testament/tanakh.
Three religions stemmed from Abraham's descendents: Judaism, Christianity, Islam. They are known as the Abrahamic faiths.

Abraham is the father of nations.
Abraham had two sons - Ishmael and Issac
Issac was the chosen one by God
Issac had a son Jacob.
Jacob was renamed Israel by God
Through that bloodline came Joseph, Moses, King David and finally Jesus.
The seeds of Ishmael are of the Muslim side.
The seeds of Issac are of the Jews and the Christians.
funny how we all share the same bible!

He is a man whom God chose like He chooses the est of us. God gave him promises and Abraham believed Him. Because Abraham was a believer by faith, those who believe God are counted as the sons of Abraham. God kept His word with Abraham when God told Abraham that the nations would be blessed by him.
Abraham wasn't perfect. One thing he did was to take a maidservant - Hagar, who bore him a son at the behest of his wife; Sarah. They thought that they were getting too old to have children, but God thought differently. God kept His promise to Abraham by having them produce Isaac, through Isaac the promises to Abraham were kept.
The Muslims believe that the birthright went to Ishmael, the product of Hagar and Abraham. But the Bible states that this is contrary to God's word. Abraham's producing of Ishmael is often referred to as 'man's attempt to fulfill God's promises'. Isaac is referred to as 'God keeping His promises to Abraham'. As God always keeps His promises.
These two boys are a strained point between the two sides - the Muslims on one side, and the Christians and Jews on the other.

He was the mythological father of both the Arabs and the Jews. The Abraham story contradicts everything about the actual history of the region he was supposed to have lived in.

He's the first of the Biblical patriarchs.
The three big religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) all have him in common, which is why they're called the "Abrahamic Religions".
