Whoa! Slow down!
There's a simple formula for losing weight: The calories you take in, have to be less than the calories your body uses (base metabolism). That's it. You can also increase your metabolism (through exercise) so you burn more calories.
It doesn't matter what exercises you do, but make them something you ENJOY - riding a bike, walking, dancing, tennis, exercise machines, whatever. And, mix things up - your body gets used to the same thing all the time, so vary what you do. Jumping rope is good, but if you're overweight, this could put stress on your joints and cause an injury.
Burning calories takes muscle. All you're planning is aerobic exercise, but you could alternate this with light weights - use a couple of big soup or juice cans or milk jugs or soda bottles with water or dirt in them if you don't have actual weights. Then, when you do aerobic workouts, they'll be that much more effective.
And diet is a big part of losing weight. If you don't cut back on calories, you have to exercise that much more to lose the weight. That doesn't mean you have to cut out ANYTHING you like - you just need to control your portions and use moderation. Do you like potato chips? Get some snack-sized ziplock bags and make "individual servings" rather than sit down if front of the TV with the entire bag. Limit how manys meals a week you can eat out (at least you'll know you can go to your favorite fast food place once in a while - just don't try to make up for all the missed meals when you're there!). By not "depriving" yourself, you're more likely to stick with a diet. And look for healthy variations to some of the foods you like.
It takes time to lose weight (but it probaly took you some time to get to your present weight too, right?). Don't look for instant results - you'll only be discouraged. Even if you don't see a big loss, by exercising you'll be getting fitter. And the scale isn't the only measure of this - if you work with weights (and you don't have to end up looking like a bodybuilder) you may lose inches but not see any change in your weight right away - muscle is denser than fat, so if you build muscle, you might weigh the same, but be thinner.
Good luck to you!

Hi Kimmy,
I know all to well how hard it can be to shift the weight. Our metabolism is based heavily on the previous day's food intake, (which is why calorie counting doesn't work that well), and so this is why you lose weight after a few days, then seem to plateu.
Typically it is advisable to give one day of rest between exercising, to give your muscles time to build and repair. If you really want to work hard, you must work different areas on different days, but since skipping uses most of the body muscles, it would be more wise to take the day off.
Not cutting down the junk food WILL have attributed thanks to good old metabolism. If the body realises it is burning an extra 400 calories per day, it will adjust so that it burns 400 calories less per day so the sum is the same, meaning no loss. It iis likely rather than losing weight, you may have just noticed a little toning. Also if your muscles build up, this is heavier than fat, hence weight.
Eating wise, it generally just try to avoid the junk food, but dont cut it out entirely, as you will be miserable. Plenty of fruit and veg etc. Try inversing portions, if you used to have half a plate of chips (or fries if US) with a burger and peas, try having more peas. (or grill the chips rather than frying) There is plenty of advice out on the net.
As for encouragement. I like to play games, and as so I am trialing a points system that I made up and i can "spend" these points on rewards, with level ups. Sounds cheesy I know, but its working. One of the activities is cycling. For every kilometer, I earn 1 point, and I must earn 30 points total per day at level 1, so on top of the cycling, there are various other activities that give 1 point such as 5 press ups etc etc.
When an activity contributes to more than 50% on THREE days of the week, it levels up. Then for 1 point it is 2km, 3km, 5km then a gruelling 8km at level 5. All activities gradually build up in quantity (as my body becomes lighter and stronger).
Rewards include 40 points for 1 can of beer, 150 points for a take away, or 500 points to buy myself a DVD. The idea being if I want something, I have to work for it. (Heck maybe even go for high score)
As a rule of thumb, you can observe these rules of exercise
20 mins = 80% Carb 20% Fat Burn
40 mins = 50% Carb 50% Fat Burn
60 mins = 20% Carb 80% Fat Burn
Essentially you need to work very hard to get to the fat burning stage.
Sorry its lengthy, but hope it helps.

You have a great program from what you are writing here. 30 mins a day of cardio work, good for you. Now you need to get your diet under control. Cut out the fast food. There is no magic word or advise I can give you. It takes self discipline and motivation if you want to be in shape, period. It is hard work, the key is getting to enjoy it - not seeing it as work or as a pain in the rear. Start lifting weights with your program if you can also. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns, even when you are sitting still or sleeping.

All I can tell you is that you do need to cut down on the junk food no matter how much exercise you do. You don't have to stop, just cut down. Eat fruit, salads and maybe an occasional snack. I think it's great that you do the bike everyday... it really helps! And yeah 3-4 days a week is good... everyday is even better! Good Luck.

well good luck skipping rope for 30 minutes. i think itll be tougher than you think. its not much exercise so if you can take it everyday do it. You will losemore weight doing the aerobics (jumping rope) than weightlifting on the exercise machine. Cutting down on junkfood will give you the greatest results adn combining it with jumping rope will do wonders. good luck. if you start to see that your results are slowing down, change up your exercises to keep your body guessing.

Skipping itself will be enough to burn calories. Junk foods are the vice. Try a bit of yoga, you will lose the craving for food, and get a pshycological boost, I mean your all in all personality will develope.
