Just pull out your old tax returns. There will be a copy of a W-2 for every place you worked for.

If you don't have the copies of your returns you'll have to order copies from the IRS. The cost is $39.00 per return so that will set you back $390 for the last 10 years worth of returns.

The IRS copy of the W-2 will contain the employer's name and address (if there was one on the W-2) and the information needed for completing your federal return. It won't have the state information.

For employment history, for a fee, social security can run a report. For 10 years of work history, the fee will run $35 to $50. To obtain a detailed statement of your employment history, you need to complete Form SSA-7050-F4, Request For Social Security Earnings Information.

You can call IRS at 800-829-1040 and request an information returns transcript for the past six years. This will have all your W-2 information for those years. There will be no charge for this. IRS purges records that are older than this.

Just a couple things to add to what others have said:

You probably can't get the whole 10 years of copies from the IRS - they don't usually keep them that far back.

A transcript won't help you. That won't give you the detail, it will just show the AMOUNT of income from W-2's for that year, not where it was from.

IRS charges $39.99 per year of W2 copies.

Only good if you have your own business and can pay the price to look up your past history. Must know your past employers.
