Ignoring punctuation, spacing, and capitalization, a monkey typing letters uniformly at random has one chance in 26 of correctly typing the first letter of Hamlet.

It has one chance in 676 (26 times 26) of typing the first two letters.

Because the probability shrinks exponentially, at 20 letters it already has only one chance in 2620 = 19,928,148,895,209,409,152,340,197,376, roughly equivalent to the probability of buying 4 lottery tickets consecutively and winning the jackpot each time. I

n the case of the entire text of Hamlet, the probabilities are so vanishingly small they can barely be conceived in human terms. Say the text of Hamlet contains 130,000 letters (it is actually more, even stripped of punctuation), then there is a probability of one in 3.4×10183946 to get the text right at the first trial.

As Kittel and Kroemer put it, "The probability of Hamlet is therefore zero in any operational sense

did you hear about the creationist who type the word "moron" and proved creationism to be false

The odds you quote are huge compared with the odds of abiogensis creating a replicating molecule such as RNA or DNA. But what you fail to grasp is the billions of chemical reactions that occurred every second in every litre of water over the course of billions of years. Even the most improbable becomes all but a certainty in such circumstances; it's just that you are unable to understand the simple mathematics of probability.

I haven't heard of a monkey typing Hamlet, but you typing this garbage sure seems like proof that you are a direct descendent of that monkey.

You have just proven evolution! Hallelulah!! Can I hear an amen!

Now go climb a tree.

I am going to wait until a monkey answers this question....THEN, I will truly be impressed. By the way, IF we evolved from monkeys...how come there are still monkeys and not just more homo sapiens????? If only smart monkeys evolved how come one could type the word Hamlet, when she should have evolved and become a presidential candidate. OH WAIT, I think she DID.

A recent experiment showing a chimp remembering the sequence of numbers one to nine, and doing it consistently better than a human subject shows an ability as yet unexplained.
But this does prove evolution.

We have been created in god's ' image'. Not that we look like him but in that we have His qualities, like ability to love and compassion.
Animals do not have that at all.
We remember loved ones who sadly die many years later even on a daily basis. animals do not, can not do that.

And this has nothing whatsoever to do with evolution.

Primates like you should take a page from Francis Collins.
Christian, Geneticist, and not patently in denial.

Monkeys dont have human issues, stress. or reason to know anything else but what they are taught. No distractions. Make any sense?

pffft thats nothing! Everyone knows if you put a hundred monkeys to work at a hundred typewriters and give them an unlimited supply of bananas they will eventually produce a word for word copy of the bible.

It is people that post silly interpretations like that, that justify evolution and that we evolved from lesser species. Well most of us seem to have evolved anyway.

But you're a monkey and you typed a whole boring question.
