Hi. I have realized I have sinned in my life, and I want to devote my life to the Lord and Christ. I think Jesus has finally shown himself to me, and I know know that religion is the right way to go. However, I have no family history of religion, so I don't know which religion would be the true path to the Lord? Thanks, and God Bless.

No one can make this decision for you - please don't take anyone here's advice (but mine).

First off, you need to read the bible, at least the new testiment.

Secondly, get out your phone book and look up churches in your area. Go to a different one every week. Often they have little brocures you can take home that are for guests / visitors that say who they are and what they believe in. Take them home and compare them - to each other, but also to what you read in the bible. Which one rings true to you? If they don't have the brochure type of thing, see if they have a web site. If they don't have that, you may need to ask someone there (probably a pastor) about their denomination and what they believe.

I will tell you to steer clear of a few churches. The "Latter Day Saints" (mormans) and the Jehova's Witnesses both conisder themselves Christians, however they are so far from the main stream that other Christians (by and large) don't consider them to be Christians. Unitarians also have beliefs that many Christians would classify as "cult". There's probably more I should list here that I'm drawing a blank on.

Lastly, go to "Evangellical" churches (like say the Nazarines) last on your list. Nothing wrong with them, it's just that they tend to be a lot more vocal and active in church (raising their hands, dancing around a bit), and it can be diconcerting until you get used to it. It can kind of scare off someone who's new to Christianity. But do try them, perhaps that will be your cup of tea?

If you are having issues with dealing with your past life, I highly recommend ChristLife Solutions (http://www.christlife.org/). They are not associated with any particular denomination, but focus on your walk with Christ and how to view yourself the way Christ views you.

Well, if you want a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, you need to study the Bible. Prayer is our way to communicate to the Lord. It is nice to know He is always listening to us. I would also suggest going to a Bible based church. By that, I mean going to a church that teaches what the word of God says. It would also be nice if you found some good Christian friends to fellowship with. You can learn so much from one another. Christianity is more than a "religion". It is a daily walk with the Lord. You are always growing and learning new things. Being a Christian means to be a follower of Christ. Every day, you should strive to be the person He wants you to be. I think it's great that you admit to being a sinner. All of us have sinned. We are all in need of a savior. Jesus is the only one who can save us from our sinful lives. You are definitely on the right path. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and you can't go wrong. You are in my prayers.

The key is salvation through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and His death, burial and resurrection (and relationship to God the Father through Jesus).

What I would suggest to you is: THAT IS the conversion necessary. If, afterward, you want to find the right church or denomination, I would recommend that you pray to the Father in Jesus' Name and ask Him where He wants you. He'll guide you, if you ask.

Organized religion isn't necessarily the way to go, because with it comes a lot of ritual and man-made laws that sometimes go against the Word of God. Generally I would suggest a Bible-believing place of worship that believes Jesus is THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life and that every word of the Bible is God-breathed. I find that more non-denominational churches believe the Bible over rituals than various denominations do.

I would also suggest that you get into the Bible, specifically the New Testament and pray that the Lord open up your understanding before you read. I've heard it said that the first book you should read is the Gospel of John, because it includes a lot of Jesus' teachings.

Acts 2:21 says "And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord [invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord--Christ] shall be saved."

From the Gospel of John 3:16-"For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life."
John 3:17-"For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him."

BTW: I'm not saying you're NOT a Christian, I'm just pointing out that that belief is the real conversion...not joining a major denomination. (I hope I made that clear. If not, I apologize.)

I think it would be unfair if I told you a religion to convert to, or which was best for you. I suggest you research a few that you had in mind. The internet is a good place to start, but try to read ones with an objective point of view - like wikipedia. That way you don't get too much elements of bias and prejudice, and you can decide for yourself with a clear head :)

Congratulations. You have taken the first step in acknowledging that you have sinned and that you need God.

Forget everyone who says all paths lead to the same destination, they lead to very different and very Dangerous places. It's your choice, all of us can only guide you along.

Okay. Since I'm Christian, you obviously should know I'd say Christianity. Be careful, though, what you choose, because there are lots of cults and whatnot. I suggest you get a bible... Sit down one day, and challenge God to show himself to you. Talk to him. Read the Bible, it's his word, it's one way he speaks.

Get a Christian friend... someone you trust and is relatively mature, and... well, talk. It's not going to be easy, but it's going to be rewarding if you stick with it, and remember...God loves you, and nothing anyone can do will change that fact.

All I will say is that you have chosen possibly one of the worst places available for a potential christian. This site should be renamed Athiosta. Why so many flock to a site about something they don't believe in has got me stumped, oh thats right they are doing what they hate, trying to shove their veiws down my neck My advice listen the Bible, particularly the 4 Gospels, be very wary of any groups who try to add their spin to it, religeous or otherwise.

our Heavenly Father is the source of all truth.
He loves you and wants to answer your questions.
Therefore, He will help you recognize the truth as you sincerely seek it and ask Him for guidance.

You can know if the things you are learning are true if you ask your Heavenly Father in prayer. He desires for you to know the truth, and you can receive an answer from Him through the Holy Ghost.
As taught in the Bible,
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, [and] temperance” (Galatians 5:22–23). These feelings from the Holy Ghost are personal revelation to you that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is true.
You will then need to choose whether you will live in harmony with the knowledge you have received.

As the Savior taught in the Bible, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you ( Matthew 7:7). Feelings from the Holy Ghost are personal revelation to you that confirm the truth of the Book of Mormon and the gospel of Jesus Christ as restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.

The last prophet of the Book of Mormon?, a man named Moroni?, gave this remarkable promise to anyone who wants to know whether the Book of Mormon is true: “And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost?” ( Moroni 10:4).

You can discover for yourself that what you’ve been learning is true by:

* Sincerely praying? to your Heavenly Father and asking Him if what you are learning is true.
* Continuing to study and give thoughtful consideration to what you are learning.
* Listening with your heart for the Holy Ghost to whisper the truth to you.
* Following God’s commandments? so you can feel the influence of the Holy Ghost.

You don't have to convert to someone elses beliefs. Nobody knows the true path to the "lord".
I think you should devote your life to you and believe in whatever makes you happy.
There are many people that do not need religion to tell them what is right and wrong.

Prepare yourself for a myriad of different answers... I say that because when someone suggests a certain religion to you - someone else will tell you that they're full of garbage...

I'm not going to suggest anything to you - other than you should prayerfully and honestly do your own research and study, and that you come to your own conclusions.

Good luck with your search.
