I prefer to be led around by the nose, actually.

Yeah, no.

LOL

No one can tell you that, only you can decide. But here's some food for thought:

Some famous 20th Century scientist or other said "If you believe in God and he doesn't exist, than you have lost nothing, but if you don't believe in God and he does exist, then you have lost everything."

If you don't want to be led around by the nose in pursuit of some "ficticious deity", then find your own way. If you are open to possibility, your own path will find you. Here are some rules:

ALWAYS question authority (I didn't say always disobey authority). Ask yourself: Who am I? What is my purpose in Life? Where Do We Come From? Why Are We Here? Where do we go next? If there is no hereafter, then What is the Point? If there's no point, than why do I get up every day?

And while everything may be ruled by the laws of Chaos, nothing happens by chance. Embrace the concept of Synchronicity.

======================================

Two thumbs down already? Ah well, I didn't really expect everyone to grasp what I'm saying, especially those who want black & white easy answers so they don't have to think for themselves. Thinking is hard work people. Seek true knowledge and you shall find it.

I would say to be led around by the nose of some fictional deity (if that's what u believe) (and if I have to choose one). Because my thing is I'd rather be safe than sorry. But I believe there is a God!

How can you be lead by a fictional deity?
And how much do you think people actually change their life patterns based on an abstract religious concept? Doesn't it look like most people alter their religion to accomodate what they want to believe and do? It wasn't always the case, but modern religion in the free world has become a matter of convenience, and offer flexible doctrines that enable you to hate who you want to hate, love who you want to love, and still wear that skimpy little bikini down at the beach.

You can't "either-or" this and expect a good answer. There are too many invisible variables to account for the outcomes.

Saints and Sinners belong to all of the various clubs: atheist or deist, scientist, creationist, pragmatist or artist, socialist or capitalist, meat-eater or veggie-lover (Hitler was a vegetarian but then so was Gandhi).

Could it be that what is "better" for each of us might be different according to our differing experience and needs?

Neither is a good option. Either one will not gain eternal life. Christians should not be led around by the nose... if that is happening, it is time to stop going to your church. True Christians will search God's word and ask God for guidance in understanding it. They will search it as well as any scientist searches for the meanings of the universe or the cure for cancer. They will look at various options and do their best to come to a logical conclusion. Following what a clergy man tells you without doing the research shows a lack of desire to know God.

as I sit out of the wind and warm myself in the morning sun, I am glad to be a non believer, to fully enjoy the warmth instead of spending my time thanking an invisible being for allowing me to do what is natural, coffee is better in the sun.
Life is better in the sun, and you will never make me believe something is allowing me to do this.

at least a fictional deity would make the person more concerned about his morals.

Whoops! Sorry, must have stumbled upon the wrong page....I don't like Godless stuff.

Eh. I say to be Godless. We dont NEED supernatural influences in our lives. We are people, destined to mess stuff up.

But we are also very different, and with that, our opinions differ. Thats good, otherwise we'd get really bored hanging out with a bunch of people that agreed with everything we said.

If you compare the peace of God to the peace of the Godless, I'm sure you would think twice about your quetion.
