I'm using birth control for the first time and my doctor prescribed it to clear up my acne. She prescribed Orthro Tri Cyclen but my pharmacist said TriNessa is the generic version and my insurance wouldn't pay for brand name. The first month I saw my face clearing up a lot but now the second month my skin when crazy. I suddenly have so many breakouts. I've been reading mixed reviews about TriNessa but could that be the reason for the breakout? Should I try the brand name instead or another one like Yaz?

I am also on Tri-Nessa. I had previously been on Zovia which caused my skin to break out A LOT. Tri-Nessa has really cleared up my skin but each person is different so it may not be working for you. I would give any new pill 3 months to see how your body adjusts to it.
My doctor prescribed me clindamycin gel for my acne after my skin broke out from taking Zovia.
As far as going to the brand name I did once read that one gyno rec commended that she always tells her patients to get brand name...but if you do this it is going to cost you A LOT more than generic pills and you may not see a difference since in theory it is the same thing. You may have better luck switching to a different pill than from generic to name brand.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

just ask your doctor for a different prescription if you are that worried. however i just happened to google trinessa as well and people who are complaining about it are the ones that switched from otc to trinessa. however this is your first prescription right? also, are you worried because it is a generic brand? dont worry. generic brand drugs have the same ingredients. i am currently using jolessa; a generic variant of seasonale, and i have not had any problems with it at all. i would take it if i were you and pay attention to any symptoms that you may experience. the side effects with certain brands vary from person to person. my friend had a problem with orthotricyclen but her other friend didnt. just dont dwell on it too much. you dont want any to develop psychosomatically induced symptoms!

Trinessa Acne

TriNessa is one of the generics for OTC. There are no significant differences between it and OTC. What you are explaining is a common side effect of birth control pills. OTC is one of the better ones in terms of breakouts, and is in fact indicated for acne, but it can still cause breakouts, especially if you haven't taken it for more than 4 months. The breakouts would have happened even if you are on brand OTC.
Yaz is double the cost of Trinessa, $30 vs $60.
