I've asked something vaguely like this before, but want to try a slightly different angle on it and see what the people here, now, think.

please name a crime that truly deserves infinite punishment.

I've talked to and read alot lately of people finding the idea of by our nature, deserving of an infinite punishment, and calling that justice! I just cannot wrap my head around this concept. how can someone think that they, as God created them, are deserving of such?

I don't claim to be perfect, but I am certainly not so bad that I deserve infinite punishment... in fact i'd go so far as to say that *nobody* really deserves infinite punishment. some deserve a whole heck of alot... but eternity is a long time. and what is the point of punishment if theres no chance to learn or repent or even try to make up for that wrongdoing?

what line of thinking is it that leads one to accept such a concept readily, as deserving eternal punishment, at all, let alone by nature.

Tracy, the God that I follow is not limited in such a way. he can and does talk to people himself.

but additionally, you say we are given a chance to repent. but for what? wether such repentance is directly to god, or via Jesus, I have done nothing to repent for that is worthy of eternal punishment.

Rapsson, in the situation you describe I see no problem.
I DO believe in God. the question is not humility or belief in God, but in the justice of eternal punishment.
if the "eternal punishment" is simply allowing those who are not interested in being near god, to NOT be, then thats just fine. thats not really punishment as such.

In addition to that, I often wonder why a God of such vengeance would create people for the sole purpose of deciding where they should spend eternity. Wouldn't the whole earth experience be redundant?

I wonder how many Christians understand that their concept of eternal punishment doesn't come from the Hebrew Bible.

This is why we are given every chance to repent, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to come into our hearts. We send ourselves there when we don't do that.

Jesus Christ said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Think about it: If you were suddenly face to face with God and all your doubts were answered as to His reality and if he really is as majestic as everyone says He is, maker of the universe and all that garb, then do you think you'd feel a bit humbled? If I were God and revealed myself to a human and that human said 'Still don't believe in you' then I think I'd send them away forever and a day too.....

Do you think the person who rejects God on Judgement Day will care that they go to a place with no God?
