You should be able to go see a doctor without your parents permission. Heck, my kids need to sign a release to allow the Dr office to give me information. But then be aware that your insurance will send a billing statement to your parents, if you covered under their plan. Usually there is also a co- payment for prescriptions.

As a parent of a 15 year old I would not want her taking any medication that wasn't prescribed for her as they can be dangerous. And as one poster has said how do you know that you have ADHD??? It's not just something that pops up in the middle of high school. There are signs of it that would have appeared way before this. I think that you're confusing the pressures of high school with ADHD and to use a medication that you don't need might have long term side effects you don't know about. If you truly think that you have ADHD than talk to your school counselor or medical doctor and ask to be evaluated and have a treatment plan drawn up. That would be the way to prove to your parents that you're serious about getting an handle on this. Others wise your jeopardizing you mental health for what??? A high??

Really dumb thing your friend did by giving you the Ritalin, do you know that's illegal to do that, not just dangerous?
How do you know you have ADHD, has a professional team evaluated you with a 700 point exam yet? Have your teachers and relatives given testimony of various things that would point to ADHD?
Wanting to take pills that are very harmful is not at all smart. I can understand you want to feel better, but there are other things that can be done first.
I strongly suggest you see the book "THE ADD BOOK" by Sears and Thompson. They discuss diet, behavior modification, natural remedies, etc., to help. This is the way to go first.
And no you cannot go on it without parents consent.

Your parents put you on RITATLIN?!? Oh my god! ADHD or ADD is a misnomer!!! It's just boredom or need of exercise! Ritalin shrinks your brain! Get off the stuff! You have the right! Have a talk with them and if they don't agree, just get rid of it and say you're taking it. Or move out!

Talk to your doctor about Strattera. It's a non-stimulant, non-addictive medication that is effective in treating ADHD.

One ritalin won't cure you. You have to allow it time & take it consistantly for you to feel results.
