Because that is what they are programmed to believe. They don't even know why they think it. .lol

You don't have to understand it for them to have their beliefs. Each person is different so I'm assuming they probably were raised to believe that and it has carried on into adulthood. We all find meaning in different things, instead of trying to understand their "mentality" just be content with having the freedom to have whatever mentality you want. Its not that confusing, to each their own.

People fear death.
They cannot accept that life might not have a deeper meaning. Maybe things are simple and we aren't important.
God is arrogance. A believer says, "I believe there is this thing that is greater than all things, and I believe this thing loves me more than anything in all of time and space."
Gosh! That has to feel really swell! (If you can convince yourself of this ridiculous fantasy.)
The truth that we atheists offer just isn't as flashy and sexy as the lies of religion.

Most people feel that there has to be more to life than eating, sleeping, working, having kids, taking a few vacations, having a few laughs and then dying.

i think that they feel THEIR lives have no meaning if there is no god. afterall some people have very little to be happy about. or that their lives are very hard on them. so if they are told that its a test and you'll be saved at the end. well it makes things easier doesnt it.
i also think that most people who are told that are poor so again they have hardship, and to think that nothing else will come of it makes it worse.

if we are just the result of cells mutating and werent created with a purpose, life is meaningless. it doesnt matter what you accomplish in this life. when you die it will all be erased.

There has to be life in order for it to have meaning.
That can be taken two ways.
Either God is and so there is life, or without God you are spiritually dead.

because it is true. You may feel that your life has some meaing that YOU have given it, but life has no meaning or purpose.
