A meme is a construct that is being tested as a possible explanation for ideas that can replicate, in spite of their providing no advantage to the species.

An example of such ideas are superstitions ("Step on a crack, break your mother's back," "Don't let a black cat cross your path," or "Break a mirror and get 7 years bad luck"). The ideas included have continued in spite of the lack of evidence, the ways in which they only serve to reproduce themselves, etc.

Since this is a construct, it is a hypothetical idea that is being considered as a way to explain the perpetuation of non-beneficial ideas. Richard Dawkins has considered religions as one form of memes.

Does the idea make sense to me? Yes. The fact that I believe in memes is proof they are real. ;)

What do you mean by "believe in"? I know fairly well what memes are, as far as I can tell there's no believing required.

i replaced into sorta hoping between the smarter Buddhists could grab this one... the "self" is an phantasm. there is not any everlasting ingredient this is noted as the self, it would not exist. So i assume we take the belief of solipsism a step further and say that no longer even the ideas or self exists.

Haven't read enough to even begin to support the hypothesis or not.

I don't think there is enough data. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a hypothesis.
