You need to ok it with the parents first since she lives in their house.
17yo kids can't enter into contracts, but I wouldn't mind giving them a dog if the family is trustworthy.

if it is a kill shelter then your dog will be euthanized if she is not adopted in 72 hours. as others have stated, black dogs are the least likely to be adopted, add in that if she were a large dog and that she is not a puppy, she will probably never get adopted. Kill shelters will kill owner surrendered animals first. they are viewed as unwanted and for the most part unadoptable. (you have to be on the other side and ask yourself..why would anyone give up a perfectly wonderful, healthy, well adjusted, cute dog...you know that your mind will be wondering if there was a major problem that caused the dog to be surrendered). Anyways, it will be very very difficult to place a dog such as yours. Owners never think about how their dog will be seen by others. Usually animals are terrified and can act aggressive when they are brought to a shelter. It is not their fault and is not normally their usual behavior. BUT since they are scared they come across as a problem animal. With time and love their behavior evens back out. Kill shelters do not give the animal the luxury of time. Owner surrenders of black, scared or shy animals, will be euthanized probably before you even leave the parking lot. Don't dump your dog!!!

The only problem is if the parents decide they don't want you have no legal binding with a minor.
Ask the girl can she talk to her parents and give them an early Christmas gift.
I nevr sell or adopt a dog to a underage person this has caused many problems and not just for you but the poor dog.
It would actually be better for the dog so it can get use to the new environment before the craziness of the Holiday.

A 17 year old signature is NOT valid in the US without her parents permission. Just have her tell her parents about the dog on Christmas and hold on to the dog until then. This will save you ANY trouble you could possibly get into. Trust me, you don't want to deal with the drama that could ensue.

Well, since it's a private agreement between you & the young lady, then it's really up to you if you think her signature is legit, and of course, you have every right to have her sign an agreement that she must return the dog to you if her parents disagree, and that you must have contact information to check in on the well-being of the dog.
Of course, she should be able to get her 'adoption fee' back, if she's unable to keep the dog, as well (assuming she brings the dog back to you, as agreed).

Because you are an individual adopting out a dog, you can adopt her to anyone you like. There are only rules when adopting from a shelter. Legally, this would be seen as you giving her the dog as a present.

Legally, she is not responsible for the dog. Any contract she signs with you is void because she is under 18. Most places do not adopt to under 18 for this reason. Most places also do not adopt out pets with the intentions of them being "gifts"

I wouldn't adopt a dog to anyone who isn't going to be taking care of the animal. Who knows if her parents really want a dog or are willing to take care of one.
If they want a dog, tell her to send her parents to you.
A 17 year old definitely shouldn't be making that kind of purchase.

Yes.
I adopted a dog when I was 15, so I'm pretty sure.
and plus this is a private agreement between you and the young lady.
It's really up to you.
Hope that helps!

Beavis and Butt-head adopted a dog in one of their episodes and they were only 15.
