can you tell me an approximate measurement.
i.e. a foot? an inch?

5 feet maybe. You have to allow for lots of room in case the wind comes up and the flags start flapping in the wind.

I looked it up on the Flag Protocol site and it did not specify distances. Only that the flag has to be on top if displayed with another flag, but flags of different nations must be displayed on separate poles of the same height.

There is no specified distance.Only that in the USA the US flag must be higher than any other flag.
