Females will go into heat. and they will bleed. its not a montly "period"(heat cycle) though. they will bleed for about a week and not again for as late as 6 months. if they do not want puppies, then i'd suggest to get the dog spayed. a unfixed male dog can smell a female in heat up to two miles away! they WILL have a lot of male dogs around their house till she's out of the heat cycle. and if shes outside sometimes, a male dog will jump the fence, and the owner will have pregnant dog. God Bless

They're not periods, in fact they are about the opposite of a period. In a human, the "period" is when the uterus is preparing for the next cycle of ovulation and possible pregnancy. In dogs, it is an estrus cycle, or being "in heat", and the bloody discharge indicates that she is, or is about to, ovulate. Estrus is the only time pregnancy is possible.

The first estrus cycle usually occurs somewhere about 6 months of age, although it can be later. Usually, it occurs about every 6 months and lasts about three weeks, although not every dog follows this pattern exactly.

Female dogs are mammals. They bleed when they are ovulating or are fertile. 5 months old is normal for a dog to come into heat. That is what it is called.

particular, dogs have classes yet they are diverse from people. they arrive in "warmth" each and every 6 mos and are in warmth for 21 days. that's messy and blood gets on your furnishings, carpet and un-neutered men will wander on your backyard desirous to reproduce. I exceptionally recommend spaying her....i'm confident your vet will agree. in case you like puppies you honestly ought to check out that. there are various accountable issues that must be completed in the previous you communicate approximately that. dogs could have many issues handing over puppies and could fee a great number of money. Plus, in the adventure that your dogs is a mixed breed, why could you elect to contribute to the undesirable blend breed inhabitants? If she is organic bred, is she a high quality purebred? Is she free of genetic issues? She could desire to be examined in the previous she is bred for any genetic issues in her breed. She additionally should not be bred until she is two years of age. there are various stuff to contemplate and be bothered approximately than only "having puppies". Please, only have her spayed....you would be satisfied you probably did.

Why yes female dogs go through menes if unaltered. This is the time to lock up the dog because she can become pregnant. It is healthier for her to be spayed. Good luck.
