what kind of reasoning leads a person to believe in an afterlife?
or is it just to keep fear of death at bay?
any thoughts----thanks in advance for any answers--
good night to all and to all a good night

We place too much value on ourselves....we believe ourselves to be greater/more important than we are, so we must have a purpose and an afterlife.....a 'god don't create no junk' mindset if you would.....

I think that for many people its more unreasonable to embrace the notion of death, it seems that more people live in a way that denies the inevitable (as if they were immortal).
I also think that the afterlife becomes more reasonable when people are facing the inevitable.
The Bible says that "Eternity is written in the hearts of men." I suppose this could be an explanation as to why so many contemplate the afterlife when they are faced with their own mortality.
Cool question!

Hey nite nite and it is because of a simple thought. To go through this life and be imaginative, creative, progressive and achieveing and to just die one day and have nothing else to do seems to be a bit evasive on the part of life in general. With all the complexities and the mechanics in life, with all the models and examples that life gives us, with all the logical, scientific and mathematical sequences there are, it stands to reason that there is in fact an afterlife. I have said it before and i'll say it again. Reality is something that is real whether we choose to believe in it or not.
God Bless

Then, death comes.
You have an "Imagination".
Now, what do you "Imagine" after death?

It is not really a process of reasoning. If you meditate long enough to still the mind, you become aware that you are more than mind --- and more than body. You become aware of yourself as a soul, a timeless, non-physical being who is experiencing a physical embodiment. Once you realize your spiritual nature, and contact the realm of spirit while still in the body, you know that you will continue even after the death of the body.

Fear of death.
A desire for a reward for all suffering and persecution on Earth. This is why so many Christians seem to have a martyr complex. The more they are 'persecuted' the better their chance at heaven.

simply , it would be a very silly game : just to live without hopes in other life. I mean to meet your beloved ones again who died in this life or having your revenge from somebody which you can't have in this life or................many reasons.Any way good night !
