Blum youre an idiot. sweety you cant, you cant lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. you have to have your mother make herself stop drinking, have her help herself. i think a good idea might be to get a video camera and record her drinking. then show her the video. then start to cry and tell her you want your mom back. Man blum your an @$$#0[e

Hi friend,
As hard as it is to accept, you can only do so much to help your mom. Because ultimately it is she who will make that final committment. Actually, you need not remind her that "she's a drunk" or that "drinking is not good for the health". She knows all of that herself. Everyone of us knows basically what is right and what is wrong. So just in case, she drinks herself to her own ultimate destruction, you need not have to feel guilty about it because in all honesty, there's nothing much you can do about it. Let me just remind you though, a person who drinks from 3pm until she passed out is obviously a very unhappy person who use drinking as a sort of anesthesia to numb some emotional pain or some past actions they have regretted but couldn't get off their mind. Try a different tact. Instead of nagging her about her drinking. Be a friend to her. Show her love, support her unconditionally and be a source of strength for her. This will take time, a tonloads of patience and many failed attempt. There will be days that you will just walk out from sheer frustration. But always remember to come back the next day to boost her up. Bear in mind, the big reason you're mother drinks is because she's one "very, very unhappy person". Help her find direction and happiness in life and you'll see her cut the vice.

My heart goes out to you, and I know you are sad and disappointed of your mother. She has some serious issues in which she can only do something about it! Your mother needs to see herself when she drinks and pass out.

Get a video camera and tape her for about a week, don't let her know that you are doing this. When she sober show it to her! If you don't have a video camera, use a still camera and have the film developed. When the week end show your mom the mass of photos of herself. God bless

Honey you cannot make your mother quit drinking. No one can. She has to want that. You, however, need to get to Alanon or Alateen meeting to help you learn to cope with an alchoholic mother. Ask your school counselor, minister, or grandparent to help you. Where is your father in all this? You may need to live with him, if you are unsafe with her.

Never ever get into a car with her if you believe she has been drinking. And keep calling her on it, and don't be afraid to call 911 if you need help.

Get to alanon meetings, they can help you.
