Hair is a protein called keratin. Most people lose about 50-100 hair a day which that is normal, but if more is loss see a doctor. Hair loss is caused by many reasons. Some are as follow illness (cancer, lupus, diabetes etc.) ,or by taking medication, alopecia areata (disease), trichotillomania (pulling of the hair), poor nutrition (not enough minerals, vitamins, protein), hormonal problems or stress, infections of the scalp (fungal infections), hair treatments (damage done to the hair to fall out).

Most of the time it is hereditary, there are several other things that can contribute to it though

stress can play a major role in hair loss
illness or a major surgery
male-pattern baldness,
Certain infections
women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby
lack of circulation due to wearing a hat

If the papilla is destroyed hair will never grow out of that spot again.

Hope this helps

Watching the Cleveland Browns this year. They (the Browns, not hair loss) also cause ulcers, high blood pressure, and in some instances pure ecstasy.

You should really check out John Kelby's "Hair Again" tutorial on hair regrowth: http://www.www.fasthairregrowth.com

His cure can not only stop your hair loss but also regrow your hair, I didn't believe it at first but I was pretty much bald and now I have hair.
