I know the HD channels will come in better but just wanted to know if digital cable or an HD package from direct tv would be my best option.

Either one has the same quality, but DirecTV is going to be cheaper then cable hands down. Also DirecTV has about 4 times the number of HD channels that Dish Network has just in case you start to evaluate that offer.

If you have an HDTV then you have to get DirectTV. They offer 85 HD channels which is WAY more than anyone else.

To answer the original question however, you will not get the full benefit from your HDTV until you go digital. Also keep in mind that with digital cable not all of the channels are digital whereas with DTV they all are.

You definitely need to upgrade to use the features on the lcd. The cable company and the satelite company will both hit you with hidden costs later and a great up front offer. So just like the rest of us you will end payin in the end.
I went with cable so i could package phone, internet and tv. It is more convienient to have one place to go to for upgrades and service. But you need to decide what channels and features you will want then go with that service.
