Death or life, it cannot be both. Eternal torment would amount to eternal life, would it not?

So if we are talking about death of the flesh, then please provide scripture that tells us the soul is immortal.

Wages of sin is death. This death is a death that will not end. This death is not like the earthly death, where you pass away an you are no more. This death is to be cut away from God the Father, Jesus Christ. Those who enter eternal death will be well aware. Jesus Spoke of this death, and stated that it would be eternal wailing, torment, and knashing of teeth. If you want a better view of it read up on the story of the Rich man, and the poor man Lazarus, when the rich man beconed Lazarus (I think don't quote me) who was in the spirit to pour a drop of water to cool his tounge.

The wages of sin in this corrupted creation is death...it's why we die at all. God did not design us to die. Sin corrupted us and we die because of it.

Rebellion against God by breaking His commandments requires the penalty of hell, which is the second death and was created for satan and his angels. Any who reject God's authority as the devil and his angels did will be there as well...Sin cannot exist with God.
In the New Heaven and Earth God will make when this corrupted creation is burned up, there will be no sin. All sin will be in Hell.

Salvation is the gift of God by faith in Jesus Christ...to be forgiven of that penalty for breaking God's Law and be granted eternal life on His Son's sinless account. Since we as sinners could not enter God's paradise...Christ gives us His righteousness to cover our sinfulness when we are judged on the last day, so that God only sees the righteousness of His Son instead of our sins. On His account are we cleansed...forgiven, allowed into God's Kingdom.

Take Care and God Bless!

As for scripture that shows clearly we will live an eternity....in heaven or in hell..eternal is forever...If we are not existing we cannot be eternally punished or rewarded.

Matthew 25:46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

The book of Romans says " The wages of Sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. Wages would be mean being sinful. What you do with your life that added up to a regret and the cost is death of the soul to sin. The gift of eternal life is that gift that was given by Jesus taking the sins of the world for us in obedience to God's will. God's plan. Isaiah says, that temptation leads to lust, lust leads to sin and sin leads to death.

Very clever and observant of you! you have figured it out.

Death is the punishment for sin. As in cease to exist.

Eternal life is the benefit of accepting Christ as our savior and doing our best to live in a way that is pleasing to Him.

EDIT: why is it so hard to grasp that maybe the idea of being tormented for eternity could be wrong? According to the Bible, Hell isn't what the churches have made it out to be. Hell, in most cases refer to 'the grave" or a literal place of the dead.
The lake of fire... that is another story.... but it too is called the second death. As in cease to exist.

EDIT: The rich man and Lazarus was a parable. It was in the same place in the Bible as Jesus other parables. It was to show that the "Rich" man was the Jews... Lazarus represents the Gentiles. The Jews were rich in the knowledge of God and yet did not know Him when he came... they received punishment. The gentiles did not know much about God but accepted him when he came and they were blessed. Then Jesus referred to his own death and resurrection. Even if one was raised from the dead they would not believe.

The wages of sin is death - eternal separation from God.
God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but desires them to turn from their wicked ways so that they can live (Ezekiel 33:11). But He will not force us into submission; if we choose to reject Him, He has little choice but to give us what we want – to live apart from Him.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish...” (John 11:25-26).

you got it, eternal death or eternal life. you either burn for ever-torment in the lake of fire or if you are saved by the blood of Christ you are forgiven and you have eternal life the life of pain free. It is your choice but both are eternal. but eternal torment amounts to eternal torment- not eternal life. eternal life amounts to eternal life. but the word eternal is correct and alot of people don't pick up on that.

Life, or existence? Life is only life if it worth having. I would say spending an eternity with God would be worth having, What kind of an existence can you have (and why would you want it) spending eternity in damnation!
