Listerine is the brand name of the mouthwash. Listerine is a name brand mouth wash.

like stated earlier. brand name= noun / name brand=adjective

It was the greatest (noun) ever.

That was the most ridiculous thing to ever be brand name.

Well, I believe that /can/ mean the same thing. However, I would use brand name if I were talking about the name of a brand. I would use name brand if I were talking about the brand that dominates the current trend.

As an example, lets take cereal. Everyone knows Cheerios (General Mills). However, there are a lot of rip offs of Cheerios that not everyone knows. So Cheerios is the /name brand/ of the cereal. As oppose to the /brand name/ of Kroger brand "Cheerios" would be Toasted Oats.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure but maybe it's like the difference between......like a store brand and a big label. Kind of like when Walmart has Equate mouthwash sitting next to Lysterine.
