I would like to hear mostly from Christians but anyone is welcome to answer... I was raised Roman Catholic. I was very devout for many years but began to drift away about five years ago and found that 'The Craft of the Wise' is more along the lines of my belief system. When I was a seventh grader in a Catholic school I was told about the evils of witchcraft and to stay away from it! In my high school years, I picked up a book about witchcraft and realized that everything I had been told was untrue. Obviously, the teachers who told us to stay away did not know what they were talking about... I find that witchcraft really embraces my spiritualism and strengthens my connection with mother earth. Please share with us your own religious/spiritual background and what your educated feelings and thoughts are pertaining to this question... Thank you : )

Why do you say witchcraft is wrong Edge? Pleae elaborate... guitarrm, there is nothing to fear. Wicca is the religious part. I am not Wiccan. One can be a witch and not be Wiccan but all those who follow Wicca are witches.

It is human nature, people fear what they do not understand, and it is just easier to condemn and accuse than it is to actually do a little UNBIASED research.
I am so glad you know the difference between Wiccan and witch, far too many think there is no difference. And I may be off base (but generally I am not) but for some reason I sense you may be an old soul. I am not sure of your age, though I am sure I am old enough to be your mother, but you show wisdom beyond your years.
I am glad you have received some reasonable answers from some Christians. Another thing I would like people to understand is that not all Christians are ignorant and close minded, however a lot of those seem to find their way here.
I am a witch of over 40 years, my father is a Mormon, my mother was a "closet" witch. She knew she was different but had no understanding of why.

I think your answer is summed up here by several of the answers. The reasons many people still fear Witchcraft? People in general fear what they do not understand...AND - The Bible.
It never ceases to amaze me that so many people continue to categorize Witchcraft as the "work of the devil"...considering the devil was a concept created by Christianity. It also never ceases to amaze me that so many people think we Witches know nothing of Christian doctrine and that none of us have ever read the Bible and need them to recite us Bible quotes to prove how wrong we are.
All I can say is, thank goodness some people have taken their nose out of the Bible long enough to learn a little bit about Witchcraft (and/or Wicca) and form their own opinions. Yes, the Bible is a good book, yes it can be used as a guidline of life lessons. But think about this - we were created with brains and the ability to think for ourselves...why would we have that ability if we were not supposed to use it?
Learning something one did not previously know does not mean one has strayed from their faith. "Knowledge is the most powerful vehicle to success." (C.J. Jones)
I have a coworker who is very involved with his Catholic church, teaches Sunday school - the whole nine yards. He has asked me honest questions and I've answered, and vise versa - but never once has he started throwing out Bible quotes at me or felt the need to tell me how wrong I am. I respect that his spiritual path is the right one for him, and he respects that mine is the right one for me. Some people do understand that spirituality is not a "one size fits all". Mutual respect and understanding of one another. It is possible!

I was in Christian school from 6th to 8th grade. When the kids noticed I was different (a big black raven followed me around on the playground, I always "knew" things, etc) they pelted me with rocks to the point I was cut up badly and bleeding. They were never punished for it, and ostracized my friend and I. They called me "witch" from that point on.
It was the first time I was called a "witch." Then upon looking into my family history later, I found a family tree and records traced back several generations (stuffed into a box) It indicated that witches were in my family for at least 8 generations before me, along the maternal/paternal line (so my mom's dad's line)

Merry meet my friend,
as a fellow pagan I too have asked the same question from time to time and I have found the answer to be quite simple really. In general people are afraid of the truth. Most Christains are afraid of searching beyond the bible for thier knowledge, for fear they might be going to hell for not believing on faith alone.Unlike any pagens I know who seek truth to better understand this vast universe. Blessed be your friend in the craft

Jesus was killed for practicing phenomenal miracles on others, raising the dead, healing others, and using one Source for power, which is God. Jesus also appreciated the Earth.
Catholics used altars to be closer to God. The Wiccans (Wizards, Witches, and Alchemists) used the same concept and believe in a Source. But Wiccans do not believe there is a hell.
If you look at both, Christian people kneel down and pray for inner peace and being closer to God. The same goes for Wiccans and Buddhists except they deal with a source or get in touch with the inner being.
It all sounds like religion in many ways to me.

My opinion? Evil (unfortunatley, most believe that of witchcraft) is what you put into it. It doesn't exist until "man" allows it to exist. So many have uneducated views on 'religion'. Put religion aside and look for spiritualism that feels right to that individual.
Sounds like you found your spiritual connection. Stay with it. It sounds like it is your calling. The end results will be the same regardless of your religion. It's your spiritualism that is sacred.

I'm not afraid of witchcraft at all. It has no affect on real Christian believers. The ones who perform the craft are the ones who should be afraid. Because that stuff backfires on the people who think they know enough to dabble in it more times than you think. And when that happens, look out!

ok first, any christian looking at this, its not wrong!!! all it is is energy. thats it. we work with brain waves by visualizing to raise and command energy.
now for your question. first of all i dont think people are afraid of it. i think they just relate it to satanism, because of what the catholic church puts out. so if u want to learn about witchcraft, a catholic priest is not the right choice to learn from.

They are afraid because like you, they only go with what they have been told which is mostly lies and stereotypes. It is easier for them to just float along with these than it is to pick up a book or go to a reputable website and do the research for themselves.
Good luck with your path!!!

I am a christian and like to speak what is on my heart. I believe with all my heart that the Holy Bible King James Version is a good book. And it speaks that God is against witch craft. So if witch craft is not of God, THEN the bible says it is of the Devil. On everything in life. It is of one or the other. which way will you go ? There is a story in the bible where there was a physic... forturn teller... said if they are wrong. stone them to death....
