I really love IDImager. It has a full featured freeware version. I am using it for years and love it.

One particular feature is that it support IPTC metadata. That is great for having your photo information for cataloging INTO YOUR picture, rather than in the application database, as this happens too often.

Benefit of it? If tomorrow, you want to change software, you will not be bounded with the application, as the information is in the picture itself.

Have a look on the Internet for the advantages of using IPTC metadata. Moreover, if you want to go for publishing your pics, you will not need any extra work. For example, look at my site on the sources hereunder and you will see all picture information extracted by the server from my original picture. Definitely an advantage. And all IPTC medata is managed by IDImager Lite ver 3.5 (latest freeware).

Good luck.

Picasa.

It automatically sucks up all the images from your computer, cards, CDs and whatever else you have and organizes them by date or however else you want.

It's free forever and it's brilliant.
